question about changing draw weight

I’ve got a GM Tech Hunter Elite 60-70lb which I recently decreased the poundage to around 55lbs for league shooting. I turned out both bolts the same and noticed the gap between the lower limb and riser was quite a bit larger than the upper one. Thinking that I may have screwed up, I cranked them both back down tight and turned them out the same number of turns and ended up with the same gap difference as I originally had which is no smaller than 1/16 of an inch. I’m definitely not the worlds greatest archer but the bow seems to be shooting ok. My question is, should I leave it as is or should I try to readjust it so both gaps are the same. Lastly, is it possible that this could be a tuning issue???

Is the thickness of each limb the same?

That can be a major tunning problem. I would tightend them down all the way and make a mark so you count your turns your backing off the same. If you can pull comfortably i would crank them down all the way and leave it. So you get the most out of your bow.
I shoot a 60lb Mathews. It is easy to pull with all my hunting clothes on and in cold weather and I know im getting everything outa that bow I can. I can pull 70 yes with all my clothes and cold weather yes but not comfortably.
In your case I would make sure each limb is the same you will find it easier to tune .

What he’s saying is he cranked it down for league shooting (80 maybe 100) shots in an hour and a half. I can easily pull 70lbs in cold weather with all my warm clothing on. I dropped mine down to 63lbs. Try pulling 70lbs 80 times in and hour and a half and you get very fatigued.

Next week when you are at league, just have one of the guys there check it out.

I did the same and dropped it down from just under 70 down to 63 for league but was still getting really tired about 3/4 the way through the night so I decreased it even further to a near effortless 55 and ended up shooting a 299 but about half the inside Xs that I was getting.

I had a couple guys look at it and they didn’t know what the deal was. I was also careful to make sure I turned them out the exact same turns (twice over). Sounds like I should just bring it into a pro shop to get it checked out or get some 60 lb limbs for it

It is made by BowTech for GM and a darn good bow… but any archery tech worth his salt can diagnose your problem in a heartbeat.
Wish you lived closer I’d do it for free….well…maybe a few cookies

Are you by chance shooting league at Black Hawks in Verona, I believe Tuesday nights are hunters leagues and Wednesday nights are spots, seek out Jeff Button or Jim Burns if you are there and have them look at the difference in the gap on the limbs to riser, I would of tighten both up and marked the limb bolts myself and backed them both out even.

Let me know if this helps otherwise I can pm you Jeff’s phone number when I get back from Vegas.
