I saw the new Matthews Z7 last week and was hoping to get a chance to shoot it but didn’t unfortunately. Has anyone heard anything or actually shot this yet?

Very nice bow. If I wouldn’t have just bought my Monster last year I would have a Z-7. Very smoothe, light and fast.

I visited Archery Country and shot it….. I think i will be getting a new bow. I currently shoot the DXT and I would have to say the Z7 is quite a bit better imo. Very smooth with almost zero hand shock, very quiet and also fast, what else can you say…. it’s a Mathews Very nice Bow

Lately I have only upgraded when the bow “rung my bell” so to speak. Although due to the nature, and the industry, I have shot every Mathews bow made, along with most bows, made by other companies. My favorites from Mathews have been the Q2, Legacy, Drenalin, and now the Z7. As you can see I prefer to shoot the longer brace height bows. In the past I have had to give up some speed, to get the “feel” and quiteness I like in a bow. When I shot the Legacy, I knew it was time to buy, the Drenalin too-although not to the same extent as the Legacy was. When I was able to first shoot the Z7, it made the biggest impression on me, than any other bow ever has.

Apples to Apples (same arrow, same poundage, same draw length) the Z7 is 39 fps faster than my Drenalin was, and it is quiter, with less silencing equipment on the string, and bow. This bow is a home run. Financially wise, I’d like to say Mathews won’t top this, but knowing Matt-I’d say in a few years, I’ll be saying the same thing.

For now though, I am going to enjoy shooting the fines bow, I have ever shot. The draw curve is a little stronger than the Drenalin, but it is just as smooth, hence the increased speed. I can’t get over how quiet this bow is.

    Great post Les!
I really enjoy your perspectives on archery. Unless you are a midget that is a very big Doe…
Back in the day…late 1990s… I was a Mathews Staff shooter. I met Matt McPherson at a Christian Bowhunters 3D shoot. I had a good day and won my class, also sang a few songs at the dinner/campfire.
I chose a Conquest Pro for all my shooting/hunting back then because of the longer ATA length, which correlates to higher stability.Even today, the serious Mathews tournament shooters shoot the Apex (longer ATA) bows.
I got an opportunity to shoot the Z-7 recently and I too was impressed overall…I don’t think its as “smooth” as my 2000 Icon but a a TON more performance and, IMHO, an upgrade in shootability over everthing the past few years, including the Reezen and Monster. The only cammed bow I currently own is a Martin Rytera X…The new Z-7 has matched the smoothness of the Rytera, which is a tack driver!

BTW…Its for sale on the classifieds…

Thanks Tom. I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet Matt. Plain and simple, he is a great person. Very easy to take something positive out of every conversation with him. Good luck with the bow sale, I’ll keep my ears open, for anyone interested in it!

For 2010, Mathews has two bows in particular that will do very well in the hunting area. The Z7 and the Monster 7, both bows excel in accuracy, smoothness of draw and forgiveness in the shot. Many folks have stated that the new Monster 7 is actually easier to draw then the Z7, yet sporting a longer axle to axle with a bit more speed then the Z7. The Z7 is a shorter axle to axle bow that shows the capability to shoot as accurate as its longer axle to axle counter parts yet yielding the perfect size for the folks that favor hunting in blinds. Either bow is worth checking out, both are very quiet and both are smooth on the draw cycle.

The Monster 7 is quite a bit different then last years Monster 6 and 5
And the Z7 speaks for itself.

I always prefer a bow in the stand that draws back easy and yet allows a person to be able to let down if needed in a smooth fashion to allow a chance to draw back again to finish the shot on a buck of a lifetime.

    Good luck this year

My only advice is that if your don’t want a new bow. Do shoot it It shoots great.
