Last night I went out with the bow. For some reason I decided to go for a walk on some property I have not yet hunted this year. I kinda was scouting and hunting. Probably not the best idea, but you never know. The wind was in my face the whole time so I was hoping to made get a doe at least. I was walking and glassing did not see anything. I was heading to were I wanted to sit for an hour before dark and caught some movement through the brush. I draw as I continue to walk past the thicket. As I clear the thicket I see the largest 8 I have ever seen. I would think it would be in the 140s. So we are staring at each other at maybe 20yds for what seems to be an eternity. I am shuffling back and forth trying to see how I can get a shot through the brush and if I can get a better angle then directly up the poop chute! Needless to say he moved on and I had nothing but second guesses on if I should of let the arrow fly!

I don’t think I spooked him to bad, but how long should I wait to try it again? With the pressure from the gun season will it even matter?

Takes a lot to pass on a marginal shot on a deer that big. Best to let him walk

Hard to say at this stage if you’ll see him again. But you don’t want to take a shot like that w/ any equipment especially a bow

Glad you past on that shot. I think you’ll see him. If he was bedded and you jumped him, get in there earlier as he may move in there to rest his ‘junk’ so he can get on with business later in the night or morning light…

Sounds like you atleast got to see a better deer than me so far. You’ll get your chance yet! Keep up the good work.

Good job. I think you made the right choice. Them encounters are why we keep hunting. Hopefully you get a crack at him down the road.

Much better to take a pass on that deer, then wound him and be unable to recover. I feel better knowing he is still there to hunt then being chewed on by coyotes. You did the right thing, and that good Karma will come beck to you

I sure hope so! I am going to try it again asap! Hopefully within the next week I will be posting some pics of a big’un!
