Saw this on another forum and just thought I would share.
I’m a Rage fan on whitetails, but still had some doubt on larger sized game. Every day that passes my confidence grows with this head.

Here is the deal… I got to hunt buffalo in Wyoming last Saturday (10-03-09). I booked this hunt over a year ago and have been second guessing my set up for some time.

Here is what I took with me: Monster 29″ draw set at 70lbs., Easton Flat Lines, with Rage 2 on the end, using 2″ blazers. This set up shoots really, really well for me.

Everyone I asked told me that my arrows were to light or the Rage would not work and so on. I was not sure what I was goning to do. I actually thought that I would pick up some FMJ and tip them with a G5 Montac, but with as well as everything was shooting, I decided to stay with my set up. Not to start any arguments, but I was able to have a pass thru on an antelope at 60+ yards. It was a front to rear pass with the buck facing me.

Anyway, this buffalo hunt was on a 20,000 acre ranch below Laraime Peak. This is not a drive up and shoot them kind of thing, we actually had to walk and stalk.

Well long story short, I finally get a chance at about 3:30pm on Sat. I this buffalo at 40yds slightly quarting. Set the pin, steady, press, watch the arrow go exactly where the pin was.

Complete Pass Thru!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buffallo runs about 30yds with blood pouring out, blowing blood out the nose. It stops, stumbles at 30, stagers and falls within 45 seconds of the shot.

Saw 2 guys with big calibre rifles have to hit their animals twice….

The only damage to the Rage was a slightly bent blade. After gutting and skinning, I discovered that I also broke an off side rib.

    Speed Kills!!!!!!!!!!!

Testimonials like these make me think twice about sticking with my G5’s. I like how they shoot, but it sure would be nice to have entrance/exit holes you see with the Rage’s. I shot the three blades a while back but had to send them in for the recall. I never re-purchased another set.

Great story! The Rage 2’s are all that I’ve shot and love them.

question on the rages I have is does the practice head really shoot the same as the actual heads? or do you need to burn one of the real heads for true accuracy? thanks for your input.

What I did is I shot the Rage practice heads and determined that they fly exactly like my field tips. Being particular like I am when it comes to Bow Hunting. I then “burned” one true Rage head and found out the same thing. They also flew identical to my field or practice tips. From then on I have never had to shoot broad heads again as I know they fly the same as my field points saving on my target, sharpening, and worries. Just spin check your arrows and you should be good to go!

    Hope this helps!

I will be bear hunting next fall, does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with these on bears? I just started using them this year and have not shot anything yet and hence have no experience with them. Will they penetrate the fat and hide ok? My typical bear shots are about 15 yards.

GMAN lives for bear hunting and he has shot bear with them and had a great results. He may be gone chasing Antelope and may not respond right away.

Dang, I’ve been trying to “burn” one for quite some time. Maybe it’s time to lower my standards??? Can’t wait to experience the rage mayself.

I shot my bear this year w the 2blade rage and I hit her right behind the shoulder and immediately the bear was pumping out blood upon arrow entry. I didn’t get a complete pass through but te bear only went 10 feet from where I shot her and died. hope this helps gd luck

Agree but it seems you hear something bad about every type of broadhead on occasion. I was going to switch to rage 2 but a buddy had problems and talked me out of it. I still may go back.

Most bad “”broadhead” horror stories are actually bad “shot” horror stories.
Most of the time, none of us want to be responsible for our actions.
Hunt with what you have confidence in, Rage’s are a great broadhead.

    Totally Agree Jeremy!

It is so easy to blame someone else or our equipment.

Not sure where you’re going with the comments, I’ve just found the fixed blade sre much more forgiving in the event of a less than perfect shot. That was all I meant.

I said it before and now again, Rage 2 blades are the most lethal I’ve used and can’t imagine using anything else right now.

ERON I’m just simply saying fixed or mechanical most of the time it is not the broad heads fault but the shot or shooter themselves. The poor shot is often blamed on something else. May it be a twig, branch, broad head, deer ducking the arrow, wind gust, sun, etc. It is just part of human nature.

I’ve shot mechanicals for a long time. Shooting in SD, in the wind, it helped greatly. This weekend, I’ll be trying my first foray into the Rage sensation. Can’t wait!!!
