    Hi all!
First off, I’d like to thank Joel for his great review of his Reezen, it was spot on! I’ll try and do the same for the Hoyt. I was really torn between the AM and the Reezen, couldn’t go wrong either way.

The first thing I noticed with the AM was how light it was, I actually felt the Reezen was a bit heavy particularily on top. The AM felt solid on draw with a nice backwall with a very minimal valley. I also LOVE the grip on the AM, just feels good to me. I kept the stock wood grip, didn’t really care for the torquey Bone Collector rubber grip.

Speed- I’ve never been a speed freak but, I’m getting a very impressive 280fps with GT 5575 set at 65 lbs with a 28 inch draw. Plenty fast for me anyways.

I think the best thing I did was to put the Schaffer Opposition sight on this bow, I truly believe this has helped my shooting. Something about this sight extends my point of view and eliminates the canting from side to side. Best sight I’ve ever owned. With this bow, I have eliminated the need for a 30 yard pin, one pin is solid for 20 and 30 yards.I also am impressed with the hand shock and noise, both are nearly non-existent! I’ve already started busting nocks off at 40 yards, so I’m extremely impressed.

I’m still 100% satisfied with the AM and don’t plan on purchasing another for awhile. Plus, she’s just mean looking!

Remember, this is only personal opinion, everyone is different. If anybody has any questions about the AM, feel free to drop me a line! Hope this helps a little.

    Great review BP.

How do you like the Schaffer Fall Away rest on that bad girl? What was your overall experience in dealing with the guys at Schaffer?

Very good recap on the Alpha Max 32 Brian!

I also have the Schaffer Opposition Sight and you bring up an interesting point about eliminating your 30 yard pin. I struggle a litle bit with viewing that pin becomes it comes from the left hand side of the sight. I also shoot right handed and I’m left eye dominant. Please share with me the rest of your pin set ups and how you go about shooting at odd distances (25,35 etc…)

    Rob-
That is actually the same drop away I had on my Mission last year. The rests are all the same, just need to switch the housing to fit specific bows, Mathews, Hoyt, etc. I love that rest, really cool to see how it works on the high speed camera too!

    Brad-
I could see where that could pose a problem. Have you ever tried shooting with both eyes open? I started doing that last year and my shooting has improved a great deal. I also think I’m left eye dominate too. I have my 20 yard pin set to be just a bit high if held dead on. Anywhere from 20-35 yards I can adjust accordingly. I’ve always been a little different with my pins though too, I like to place my pins just under my desired POI. Never have I felt confident taking shots out to 40 yards until this year. I have total confidence that if the right shot presented itself and all factors came together, I would confidently let her fly.

The boys down at Schaffer are second to none! I’m not a techie guy, I just want it to work in the field. I trust them to give me an honest opinion and feedback on products hitting the shelves. I’ve NEVER been pressured into buying a flagship bow, they treat everyone the same, with respect and courtesy and a wealth of knowledge.

Great post Brian. Just got one last week. Hard choice between the Reezen and Alpa Max.

Thats a nice bow, I will be picking up my new Hoyt Turbowhawk next week. I cant wait to get it sighted in and up a tree. For me the Hoyt bows felt well balanced at full draw and after the shot.Good luck this season!

    Brian:

Kudos to you for putting this up. Not only is it a great review with some well-formed opinions mixed in, I’m convinced that it’ll help guys that go to look for new bows. I tend to think that our experience (shooting new bows at Schaffer for a few months) is not the norm for the avg. customer. That said, people need to know what to look for on each of these bows when they go in to test-drive them, otherwise it’s a bit too overwhelming with all the choices and configurations.

Nock-busting accuracy out to 40 yards says it all, good work!

    Joel,
You hit the nail on the head! With todays bows, there really isn’t a “bad” bow out there. The key is to find what works for YOU! A 1500 dollar bow don’t mean crap if you can’t shoot it.

Please don’t look for any new bow reviews from me for awhile! I had my hands full getting the last one approved from the general!
