Howdy all!! .. I’m new to IDOhunting… current member of IDOfishing. I thought I’d say hello and just get some general feed back from any.. I am new to bow hunting this year. Bought a good used bow, has been tuned and ready to shoot. Heading out Monday to shoot it for the first time.. .. Can’t wait.. I’ve hooked up with an experienced shooter and hunter so he’ll get me started. I’m looking forward to getting out and seeing what this bow hunting is all about. I love the outdoors!!!..
Any suggestions on getting started. Only thing I have so far is the bow and two arrows. Am planning on buying more arrows over the weekend. I will start looking for camo clothing and gear for the hunt..
Thanks in advance…I’ll make sure to post pics as I can when things start up…

And Congrats you’re in for a great time relaxing while bowhunting!
The best thing you have going for yourself is your friend you hooked up with – that’s a shooter and bowhunter. This will get you started down the right track. And most of all if you have any questions no matter how interesting or foolish they may seem –( ask ) there’s a lot of folks here that are ready to help you out. We all love Archery and hunting here
Have a blast with it and again – Welcome!

The best advice I can give in my experience with bow hunting is to not rush your shot. Placement of the arrow is key, and once the bow is drawn and the moment of truth comes, if you do not feel comfortable with the shot do not take it. In my younger years, I learned the hard way
August 28, 2009 at 5:53 pm #56707Welcome My advice would be to practice as much as you can!! I wouldn’t shoot past 30 yards your first year because you are just getting started. Try to enjoy it The season is long and you don’t need to feel rushed trying to put a deer in the freezer because you will get your chance
One last thing is to wait for a perfect broadside shot!! It may be tempting to put an arrow in the deer and try to fill that first ever tag, but you have to be patient!! Hope to see your first deer on herelickPosts: 6443August 28, 2009 at 11:28 pm #56734welcome to ido hunting(the good side) benjisdad
as far as what do you need??
how much are you willing to spend
i wouldnt invest a ton of money just in case you dont like it but i cant imagine you wouldnt get yourself a good setup to hunt with a couple treestands and if you can afford it some type of scent lok scent blocker clothing another thing to keep in mind is scent control
August 29, 2009 at 2:28 am #56753Thanks for the info guys!!… I have picked up a bow, reasonably priced. I also just picked up some camo gear from Wally world..LOL.. .. I’ll have to get it washed up to get rid of the scent, but have had quite a few suggestions on how to do that. Not gonna spend a ton of money.. need some arrows which I’ll probably pick up Sunday. Next will be practicing…ALOT!!.. Thanks for suggestions all… I certainly know that I’m livin in deer country…LOL… Thanks again

August 31, 2009 at 11:11 pm #56980Archery is great and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. When shoping for arrows go to a pro shop an get the propper shaft for the bow you are shooting. Such as your draw weight an length can help determine the propper shaft for your bow. It is important to have the propper spined shaft for your set up . Any good pro shop can help you with this Good luck hunting this fall.
