Hell of a deal, Wade! Looks like I am going to have to saved my paychecks and send you all of my extra money like I did last year!

I finally took the plunge this year and upgraded the old log-thrower. The decision has been years in the making, albeit a tough one because of the accuracy I had with my old setup. Each year that I’d go to shop a bow, I simply couldn’t justify spending more to get what I already had, but with pending additions and upgrades to sights/rests/etc., it was time.

Special thanks goes out to Schaffer Performance Archery for just being phenomenal throughout the whole process which started……oh, 3 years ago. I’ve been in to shoot their bows several times, and they’ve been great to work with each time, giving me the personal attention needed for this purchase, and most importantly the patience required on their part to allow me to work through the process.

To use the immortal words of Rob Stenger, “I’m no olympic archer.” However, I learned alot throughout this experience, and received what I consider to be a top-notch education in bow-buying through Schaffers and additional research I did. I was so impressed with their shop and their bows, I plan on doing a short writeup of my experience. Hopefully, this would save somebody else from having the jump over the same hurdles I did. Or at least least less of them?

I’ll have pics later, but here it is:

    Mathews Reezen 6.5 – 27.5″ draw – 65lbs

    Schaffer Opposition 4-pin Sight

    Schaffer Drop Away Arrow Rest

    Omega Stabilizer

    Beman ICS Elite Arrows

    Easton Tracer Nocks

    3-Blade Rage Broadhead

    Scott Mongoose Release

Hey, I just dropped by with a check for your wife for daycare and saw the target set-up in the yard, I was wondering if you didn’t go and drop a few dollars. Good thing I brought that check over tonight!!

Congrats on your new bow purchase Joel and I’m happy to hear that you experienced Schaffer’s excellent customer service as I did when I purchased my first bow from them over 8 years ago!

Don’t inspect the target Scott! She’s a bit squirrely yet, but I’ll get the kinks worked out before the season.

    Darrin:

I came in there prepared to purchase the 7.0, and walked out with the 6.5. As John and Jason from Schaffer’s both explained, the realized accuracy and forgiveness gained in a longer brace height (in the Reezen at least) is minimal to none given my shorter draw length and resultant arrow length. However, the lost 5fps and kinetic efficiency will keep the bow on the rest slightly longer, allowing grip or movement to alter the shot even more. Basically, it came down to why wouldn’t you want the extra 5+fps?

I’ll get more info from them tonight, but I know they’ve sold few/none of the 7.0’s, and literally 100’s of the 6.5’s.

I hear ya Darrin. My old bow shot the lights out as well, and it prevented me from getting a new one for the past 3 years! It got to the point however when I needed some new accessories, and I just decided to start fresh. Don’t let anyone pressure you into getting a new one either. I’m more function over form, and if what works for you still works great, more power to ya! There is no deader than dead.

I’ve been looking at new bows since I got my Switchback XT for my first bow last fall. But I like it so much I’m not sure I want another bow even though I’ve been loving the AM35 blacked out at Schaffer!

I’m still shooting a Mathews Legacy. I have a Switchback XT as a back up, but can’t seem to put down my Legacy.
