    Tim came over with the Chrony today…Still rehabbing the shoulder, should be up to 58-60# pretty soon we wanted to do some testing to find out;

    1) How heavier arrow weight affect bow noise levels
    2) What is going to be the best KE arrow I can shoot for the upcoming Black Bear season. (At 10-15yds max shot distance, Energy, a sharp/strong BHead and accuracy are much more important than speed )

    1) We were amazed to discover that starting with a 312gr arrow from a55lb bow, it took an increase of 165gr of arrow weight to initially drop the measured noise level 1 Decibel! Then 70gr to drop another decibel…etc So if I had a way to keep going I would have a curve showing me that at a certain point the excess bow energy (vibration) really starts to get sucked up more and more by the bow. That happened at about 545gr from my 55# Dragon and got better at 574gr….

    2) Here are the KE findings
    Tom……. 55#@29″ Dragon, WB rest, 8″ stringhush each limb, 3D Hunter release

    312gr GT 35-55 arrow……..255 fps………KE 45.1 ft/lbs
    385gr Victory 400 arrow…..236 fps………KE 47.7 ft/lbs
    425gr Edge 250 arrow……..226 fps………KE 48.2 ft/lbs
    474gr NStinger Gold arrow…215 fps………KE 48.7 ft/lbs
    545gr 2315 Easton arrow…..203 fps………KE 49.9 ft/lbs
    *(at this point I am seriously considering a 28″ NitroStinger Big Game shaft with a 180g Zwicky Delta-4…526gr! for Bear)

    The Rage website has a neat little interactive box under technology where you can simply punch in your arrow weight and speed and click on submit…VOILA! Otherwise…
    arrow weight(grains) X 450240 X 450240= KE
