I sure know my boots aren’t up to snuff..But I’ll limp around in ’em this weekend. I got 6 1 lb tanks of propane and ready to stock up more if needed, have shack, will travel.

I wonder if the giants will be bringing their snosuits this weekend…

I agree with Scott on the snosuit- I also spend the majority of the winter on ice- and this suit is built for the ice- Great product!

Now, I will disagree with Scott- which doesn’t happen often if ever-
I have tried the BATA bunny boots- the white ones, the black ones, and I have tried every other boot on the market- cabelas brands, ice kings, ice stalkers, danners… you name it, I have a pair collecting dust in the closet.

I found steger mukluks this year, and they are the WARMEST, most comfortable boots, I have ever worn. The reason being, is they don’t constrict your blood flow, and they are extremely light, so your feet don’t get wore out. The bunny boots are way too heavy for me. These are litteraly a fraction of the bunny weight. Literally!

    Quote:

These boots have been worn by numerous expeditions from the North Pole to the South Pole, and on the Iditarod Race Trail in Alaska.

If you know anything about the Iditarod Race Trail in Alaska, then you know these boots have to perform way better than any type of “winter” conditions minnesota can produce.

I am they guy that has two pair of rubber boots for bowhunting- one insulated at 800 grams, and one at 1500 grams. I only get to wear the 800 grams if the temp doesn’t drop below 40- If it is 40 or colder outside, I have to wear the 1500 gram boots, and my feet STILL GET COLD. I even have cold feet sitting inside the house, I have to wear slippers around the house during the SUMMER.

I am 100% sold on these boots- there is one downside, they will get “wet” if you don’t “snowproof” them. However, I would rather deal with that, then going off the ice early because my feet got cold at 10 am-
And, I am not sponsored by steger…

What a great weekend it was! We got down to Sparta around 2:45 on friday just in time for our tour of the Mathews plant. I have to say that i thought it was going to be a lot bigger and more in depth than it was The tour guide was not able to answer a few questions such as, “how many bows are made a year?” But overall, a cool process in how they can turn a 35 lb piece of aluminum into the risers and limbs.
First day was the North American shoot As you can see from the pictures they had real life replicas of a few of the biggest deer ever taken They were made of wax but felt and looked real!!!! I ended up shooting a 489 out of 600 on the first day for 50 targets ranging from 20-50 yards. The highest in our group of 10 was a 492.
Second day was more of a variety than an African Safari. They had some unbelievable targets from life sized elephant, giraffe, cape buffalo, kudu, etc. I ended up shooting a 514 out of 600 on that one and the highest in our group was a 515 I got a pin for shooting over 1000 overall There was also a milk jug shoot and a iron buck challenge that i did not enter or get drawn but would have been fun to try!! Overall, only $40 for the event and the next one is somewhere in Iowa in late August and im thinking of doing that one too

Thanks for the recap Ptour. Looks like a ton of fun, challenging too. Congrats on the shooting, knew you must be pretty accurate by the “dead gopher” post you made a few weeks ago!

Interested in seeing the other pics too, thanks for sharing!

I want to thank Protour for his posting last week. I had never hear of the R100 so after seeing his post my son and I made plans to head over. We were there on Sunday and just did the African Safari. We had a great time. The volunteers and everyone did a great job putting this together. I was a little concerned about a slow pace with so many people but we were able to move along at a fair clip. Yes, there was waiting but you have to expect that. I was impressed by the ability of others to shoot so accurately. My son did well but I will admit that I am no expert. I lost an arrow early on when a folf ducked my arrow……I am sure he ducked and then, after seeing that my son shot low. I guess we won’t be bow hunting for wolves any time soon. The good news is that I found his arrow. Then later when we were getting a bite to eat I saw a pile of arrows that had been turned in. Sure enough some nice person turned mine in…..made my day a little better.

It was a fun day that only got better. After we left the shoot we went fishing on the Mississippi from the lock and dam in Dresbach. We live about an hour and 45 minutes from the river so anytime we are close we try to fit in some fishing. Lucky for us the fish were biting! Caught lot’s of large mouth, rock bass, and sunnies. Finally quit around 7:00 when we ran out of bait. It was a long drive over to Sparta and a long day but it made for a good time.

Im glad you were able to make it The staff did an excellent job cutting paths, setting out porta pots, water, walking around making sure people were having a good time, etc. The only problem i had was the waiting behind some people. Some groups of 10 along with grandma, grandpa, the dog, brother in law, the goldfish in a bag really made it frustrating But that is why we got there at 7 am each morning to beat the crowds

Now that is funny…..yes, I could have used a few more benches to rest my back, feet, legs, everything. We had four regular guys in front of us who were a tad sluggish but overall we came away happy!!

    Cool stuff there protourbaits

I drove down to Wabash IN to shoot the R100 on Aug 1st & 2nd and hooked up with some old friends as in Sparta’s they are all a blast, I don’t know what was more fun the African or North American in Wabash I would say the North American may have been more challenging,

No official scores posted yet on the R100 site but I had a 547 on the African and a 548 on the North American both in the open class.

It was a blast and I am looking forward to next year!
