    James and Scott,

I did want to ask a question. I noticed that you two both had different techinques for tip-up fishing. Scott, you seemed to pull the tip-up and set the hook right away. James, you pulled up the tip-up, and with your free hand, pulled line off the spool until you had what looked like enough to “work with”. I have to say that James’ method is what I have always done, unless using a quickstrike rig. Can you two expand on what presentations you were using compared to your method of answering the “flag”? Inquiring minds want to know.

IT might have been one of those tip ups that didn’t exactly get noticed right away.

Or… once in awhile we’ll have a rash of hit and runs where the fish drops the bait at the end of the first big run. This typically happens midday. When we start to see that type of pattern develop we start trying different techniques with the timing of the hookset. One of those is to hit the fish as soon as you get to the flag. It doesn’t work often but once in awhile you’ll get an extra fish or two out of a bunch of flags that were destined to drop the bait after the first run with the bait.

Typically we show up at a flag, get the tip up out of the hole without letting the fish feel any resistence. If the fish is still running we let it run. Once the fish stops I like to feel for those tell-tale thumps which I assume is the walleye positioning the bait to be swallowed. As soon as that fish starts to move again after I feel those thumps… they get hit.

Great info! Well, Scott got her, so something must have been done right!!!

    Thanks!!!

I FINALLY made it down to Schaffer’s last night and got a new Schaffer Performance Archery GEN-II fall away arrow rest installed and a new Schaffer Opposition Sight both with Mathews Lost Camo finish installed on my Legacy last night. Craig was awesome to work with and had a wealth of knowledge for my questions about my new Opposition sight. I’m really excited to try this sight out and see if it truly makes a difference in my long range accuracy. I know the fall away rest is awesome, but the sight is new to me. I will report further once I have some arrows shot using this sight.

I also got my bow tuned by the state of the art camera that can only really be found a few places in the Country and Schaffers is one of them. See below for a quick video clip of a arrow being shot using the camera.

I’m also making the move to the Shaffer Opposition Sight and the Mat-1 GEN II Arrow Rest!

I saw Lip hit the bulls eye with these on his bow and realize it’s dummy proof…

Hey Brad, do you think they would be able to set up a bow with no cams or cable guard with a drop away? My shoot thru cable does move about 1/2″ down upon drawing.

Tom, I believe they would if your cable moves, but lets wait for their answer.

I called Schaffer Performance Archery and they said thier E-2 Gen II Universal Rest should work on your Dragon bow.

Call Jason at 952-894-4139 and he will take care of you.

    Hey Guys,
I’ve been shooting the Schaffer Mat 1 for awhile now and I love it. I’ve got one on my Legacy which this year
will be my backup bow. I also have one on my Reezen this
year and It’s the best drop away rest out there in my opinion. I also have the Opposition sight in Lost Camo and
my shooting has really improved since I just went and got more arrows because of all the robbin hoods.

And here I thought I was the only one to still shoot the Legacy.

I’m dialed in out to 50. I still need a lil work at 60 however.

Does that sight have the .019 pins?

Life, No it does not. It has the .29 Pins. However they are true a .29 pin. Meaning most others pins mushroom the heads of the pins to fit the sight. So the diameter of the actual pin is .29, .19 or whatever, but the actual heads (what we see/use) are larger. I compared the pins in the Schaffer Opposition sight to my other .29 and .19 pins I had laying around and the Opposition Sight pins seem to be closer to my other .19 pins but ever so slightly bigger. Does that make sense?

    Hey Guys,
If any of you decide too get the light that comes with it the sight or if you decide too buy it it is really bright I don’t think a blind man couldn’t miss with this added too the sight.

This Schaffer Opposition Sight is growing on me more and more everytime I shoot it. It is amazing how the alternating side pins really help your down range accuracy and keep you from canting your bow.

Looks pretty slick. I’m in the market for a new sight this year, have to check that one out.
