i know it’s the off season and it’s still 200 and some days until the opener (i’m sure somebody on here would know the exact number LR ) any way late last fall my son was asking about bow hunting (he has some friends that bow hunt) and showed an interest in it. being it was the end of the season i gave him the old genaric parent answer “sure will look in to it” well the other day i asked him about going to deer clasic well this brought up the whole bow hunting thing again.what i’m looking for is the names of some good archery shops that will have a selection of used bows that we could go check out.(i’m not ready to invest in new for him yet, you know how kids are) also my son is not a yute(my cousin vinny) 16yrs old 6’1″ 175 so i would be looking for adult bows.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m sure someone will have an answer for you SLACK…but don’t you know it’s never off season here on IDO? It’s just a “short” hiatis until the fall!

Well first off it is 179 more days until I hunt ND, so you can tack on about another 14 days for MN season.

    But who is counting??????

Now that we have that out of the way, I would suggest going somewhere first and then getting the Yute measured up for a draw length. Any archery shop could help you out with that (remember they are not all equal). Corey Waller or someone else might be able to help you out to what is close to Hastings. Then ask the guys at the shop what they have in stock that fits your Boy and let him shoot it. This is key IMO, to find a bow that he is comfy with.

Another answer could be once you get him measured, Craigslist sometimes has some good deals. But at least from Archery shop you know what you are getting and are able to shoot it first.

Last year at the Classic, Archery Country of Waite Park had a good sized booth with lots of product for sale. They had quite a few close out bows some rigged some not. I thought they had some great prices as one bow has a msrp of $659 and they were closing them out at under $400 all set up.

ok lets try this again, i under stand about the sizing , draw length, comfort and all that. and yes i believe shooting a bow before buying is important. i do not know of any archery shops in the metro area where we can go do this. some place in the hastings area is not important (i do have a horse and wagon) service and knowledge is more important. i do plan on bringing him to the deer clasic if he can make it which would be a good place to start. so that being said i’m looking for names of good archery shops.

    thanks

In that case Schaffer Performance Archery in Burnsville 952-894-4139!

Click Here to see where they are located.

Tell them Brad and Rob from IDO sent ya. I believe they deal with Mathews, Hoyt, PSE and maybe a few others, so you can try all types of different bows and prices.
