Pull up on a fawn at 40 yards and see how that looks!! Right now I feel very good about 40 yards. I still have my 60 yd pin from my elk hunting days.

I busted a Cow Elk at 85-87 yards back in 04′. But then again, The target is 5 times bigger than an average Whitetail. But it’s all about the confidence. At that time I was dropping 4 arrows into a coffee can at 60 with like what G said , No WTF arrows.. Now, NO WAY. but 40 is good for me.

Lip, How do you know it’s at 41-42? Do you pass on a dandy in a dandy situation at 44? I know there’s a cut-off point for everyone but how do you know exactly where your’s is at? Maybe I can find mine.

I say 41-42 only because I know I will hit a tad low at that Range using my 40 yard pin. Hitting a tad low at a longer range is acceptable to me as the chances of the deer dropping are greater. WB, I don’t think you ever know what your range exactly is as for me every situation is different and some days my confidence is higher then others. I take each encounter and analyze it then. Some days under some conditions (huge cross wind) 25 yards might be my threshold. Each encounter is different.

Remember the longest shot I have actually taken is 25 yards. I have passed on some dandy bucks in the 150-170″ class at 12-30 yards because the shot was not ideal and the deer was either moving, not broadside or quartering away. Those deer were well inside my comfort zone as far as yardage, but other factors play into if I shoot or not. Remember also under the heat of the moment, one can not make the right decision, as I’m sure we all have been down that road. Have I ever taken a poor shot or made a bad decision?? Yes I have. Will I make a poor shot or bad decision again??? I’m sure I will. If you hunt long enough these things happen, but we need to learn from our mistakes, bad decisions, and try to make sure we don’t make the same ones over and over. We as sportsmen owe it to the game we pursue and attempt to harvest, to make ethical and very high percentage shots.

My comfort is up to 50. I only have a shot this far in a stand that i have over looking a field. I would be more afraid of the deer dropping than me hitting the mark Im pretty confident at that distance. My brother always sights in his bow to 1-2″ low because of the hight difference from a tree stand Even if a deer ducks, the 1-2″ can make a huge difference if you are aiming at the heart
