I’m a little bit revved up…I take off on Friday for Idaho for my first-of-a-lifetime elk hunt. I’ve been shooting my bow almost daily all summer, been running every other day for about 6 months – my gear is packed and I am amped.

It’s taken me more than a year to save up the funds, and more than two years to strategically get this trip approved by the House Commander.

I’ll be out there for just over a week and will be sure to post a report upon my return.

Good luck DD!! Take lots of photos. Are you going with an outfitter or on your own?

I have a close friend who lives out there – he grew up in that area and has done some guiding in the past. It’s a dream situation for me…He’s been hunting the area for years, has been scouting all summer – the wall tent is already set up and the wood is split.

Man, is it hard to get any work done at the office today…

I keep telling him, one of these years, I might get to go with the wheeler They have a set-up similar to yours, local guys that know the land and the elk, guiding them. Good luck and like said, lots of pictures please

Good luck. How do you plan on hunting, sitting a tank or calling?

Calling – almost exclusively. Really heavy timber in the area we are hunting which makes spot/stalk next to impossible. Can’t stalk what you can’t spot. I’m told that if I see an elk, it’ll be w/n 30 or 40 yards.

IMO that’s the only way to hunt elk, not saying that sitting in a tree stand isn’t effective I just think its funner being on the ground chasing them. Don’t be surprised if you get them even closer than 30-40 yards. On my last hunt (05) I had a bull @ 4 foot, boy was I scared. It sounds like your all set but if you would here how we hunt them in AZ, give me a call 480 586 0163
