Well some of you know I have been struggling trying to figure out the best arrow for my wife Stacie to be shooting out of her new Mathews DXT. I have done a lot of research & calculator work trying to figure out the best arrow set up to maximize the KE. Not only the arrow shaft and brand name, but also length.

One of the biggest missing components was how fast was she shooting her current set up or in other words how fast her arrow speed was. A key ingredient to figuring KE. Well last night she got home from work late and I detoured her into my truck before she even had the chance to get inside the house and we headed to the Coon Rapids Sportsmans Warehouse. I have always liked SW for a few reasons, but price and service were the main 2, not to mention they carry a ton of Gamehide stuff. I had not really ever dealt with their Hunting staff, until last night. At the Archery counter we were greeted by the Store Manager Scott Mueller himself. He helped Stacie get set up and clocked her arrow with a chronograph. We adjusted the weight of her arrow with different weight field tips to simulate different arrow shafts. With those different speed and weight calculations I was able to figure out the Kinetic Energy of 3 different arrows. Scott being a huge bow hunter himself, helped us out and we soon found out he knew his stuff along with his other staff that gave some great recommendations. Not surprisingly we got great service from knowledgeable people @ SW. This is something that is hard to find now days from the big retail stores, but SW continues to deliver with their Staff.

A great group of guys there that love to talk hunting. Thanks again Scott & Staff as I’m sure you will see us two again soon.!

Keep October 4th open on your calendars from 9am to 4 pm as the Coon Rapids store is having a Deer Camp with a bunch of vendors, seminars, sales, and things to do and see. Further information will be posted when available. I plan on being there, so hopefully we will see you there.

I am a big fan of SW as well. They just seem to carry a better variety of camo. I would recomend them over Cabelas or Gander. Just wish they were closer to Rochester!!

That I would agree with. They are usually cheaper also.

We went with the Maxima 150’s. After talking to quite a few people, including Carbon Express. This is the arrow that is spined for her set up. All weight aside, this is what will shoot the best for her out of her bow. She shot some this past weekend and no doubt tightened up her groups.

    Maxima 150’s
    25″ in length
    Easton Tracer Nocks
    100g heads.
