I’m looking to purchase my first camera and am wondering what to get. I am pretty set on an Aquavu but could be swayed if there is something better. I fish out of a one man flip over, mainly for panfish in 3 to 20 ft of water. I was about to buy a HD7i but then wondered if that was overkill. I am mainly looking to use it to find structure but am wanting to fish in front of it too. I’m in need of some advice. Thanks, Outback

Outback,
I just purchased the Aqua-Vu “Revolution 5.0 Pro” and really like it. I like that it is small enough to be portable and I am really impressed with the picture quality. I think it will be a good tool for finding structure in shallow waters.November 12, 2019 at 7:01 pm #1890611I like the size of the Revolution but is pict size/quality good enough to stare at for 3-4 hours? Thanks, Shawn
Shawn UPosts: 80November 13, 2019 at 9:33 am #1890688I think so, though I did just buy it. I may look for the WI-Fi hotspot Aqua-Vu sells. It creates a wi-fi signal that I will then be able to use my tablet as monitor. That will give me a 12″ screen.

Why would anyone want to take a tablet or a cell phone out on the ice and take the chance of losing it. I’m not just picking on Aview, Marcum could have one too, I don’t know.
Yes possibly in a wheel house but still, I wouldn’t want my contacts at the bottom of a lake. I ‘spose a person could use Icloud to have back ups but jez, a phone or a pad would be a terrible thing to waste.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Same reasoning people use not to buy a gps equipped sonar unit. They use their phone for the gps. I get it you’re saving money on the front end at least. Until you’re phone hits the bottom of the lake that is. I know too many people it’s happened to not to think it couldn’t happen to me. I often wonder how many phones are at the bottom of LOTW and Red. And how long it’s going to take for the drumbeat of environmental pollution is going to start because of it. You know with the batteries and all the other metals in the phone being put in the lake

It’s easy to use and worked great last season. Hooks up easily to a hard house too!

X3, it’s a great little camera.
November 14, 2019 at 10:35 pm #1891070My experience will be of no help, but sharing anyway.
Have had a Marcum Recon 5+ the past couple years and it works but hardly impressed with it. Plus the cord management of the Revolution is much slicker. If I was buying another portable hole-hopping camera, I’d definitely go with the Revolution.
Have since ordered a HD7i Gen2 but haven’t had it in the wheelhouse yet. Picture quality seems pretty darn good. This unit will be the ATV and Wheelhouse rig.

I’ll hop on your hop…
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m mostly behind the learning curve on new technology, but this has been around for awhile.
Waterproof floating cellphone cases, and you can still operate them in the case.
Would be a rare moment of negligence for it to fall in since they have a lanyard you can attach to your jacket or belt loop.
Hi-tech stuff…how ’bout that?

I like your setup using the Marcum arm for your camera. I think I may use that idea on my new setup!November 18, 2019 at 10:47 am #1891718Hijacking this thread, but other than that Marcum arm attachment does anyone else have a good suggestion on how to manage the AV micro 2 cable?
Thanks!
