Apple Pie in a Jar

I’m no expert, but this is the recipe I’ve used several times. I usually cut it in half and get about 5.5 quarts. The nutmeg is my most recent addition.

    1 gallon apple cider
    1 gallon apple juice
    1.5 cups white sugar
    6-8 cinnamon sticks
A little bit (maybe 1/2 teaspoon) of freshly grated nutmeg
    1 liter 190-proof Everclear

Combine everything except the Everclear in a large pot, and heat to a simmer. I let it simmer for 30 minutes or so. Let it cool, then strain out the cinnamon and nutmeg with cheesecloth (if you don’t use nutmeg, you don’t need to strain it). Stir in the Everclear and refrigerate.

It’s good cold, but it’s even better warm. It works out to about 11% ABV, so even though there is a Everclear in it, it’s not terribly strong.

Looks awesome! I’ll get Billy’s recipe and post it so we can compare. toast His is usually darker and I believe he leaves the cinnamon sticks in the bottles. We use a couple of the large glass Southern Comfort bottles.
Incidentally, if anyone has any large So Co bottles that are glass, send them my way! They changed to plastic bottles so we can’t buy more of the glass ones anymore.

I have a half dozen jugs in the closet yet from last winter. I checked one the other day and it does taste like apple pie. With a little bite.

Everclear…..one of my best friends. I make cooking vanilla with Everclear that beats Watkins to death. Or Shillings.

I have that problem to Randy, I solved it by setting the jar down half way through.

looks like a winner! You can get some red color by adding a bottle of Hot Dam 100, but I might try messing around with some Bird Dog cinnamon whisky added see what that tastes like

Okay I checked with my husband Billy and it’s pretty much the same recipe. With two exceptions – he uses only 3-4 cinnamon sticks but uses way more sugar. Like more than twice that amount! I’m thinking a taste test to compare is in order. mrgreen

Okay I’m thinking a taste test to compare is in order.

Pour a nice cup full of the first batch and slurp it down. Then do the same with the batch having more sugar. They’ll probably taste about the same.

    Peach Pie is even better!
    1 Gallon peach mango juice
    3 cups sugar
1 (15 oz) can of sliced peaches
    6 sticks cinnamon
after cool drain out peach slices
    add 2 cups peach schnapps
    3 cups everclear.

I started making the apple but after I made the peach, all my friends said to stick with the peach. toast

Cherry is also a good one. Cherry cider ILO of the apple!

You’d almost think we like to drink as much as we love to fish shock

My buddy was in South Dakota a few weeks ago so I had him look for the 190 Everclear but he couldn’t find it. Anyone from Sconnie going to be at the pool 2 get together? I could use a couple jugs.

or take away his man card for awhile, maybe a wine cooler chaser! all kidding aside I’m looking at getting an order of real moonshine, to which the air force guys make into apple pie for their all day BBQ’s, some place in Alabama

I’ve heard this, but I don’t know what moonshine will add that Everclear doesn’t. EC is alcohol distilled from corn. White lightning is essentially the same thing but not usually as potent as EC. My B-I-L made some apple pie this summer with commercial “moonshine”. It was good. Mine is better. )

I’m thinking on making some for a trip coming up. But I can’t do the 11% thing, and that’s not a rip on anyone.

Would you use the same recipe just dilute it more with the booze? And at what point does the booze take over the taste? Half half?

That’s why I got the jug. Not sure how much more I will add yet though.

I’d start with the base recipe and then add Everclear till your heart’s content. Just add a bit at a time so that you don’t overdo it.

For me the big thing is not how much alcohol is added, it’s giving the mixture a good 30 days to blend before drinking. The longer it sits the better it tastes and therefore the more alcohol that can be added without causing you to cough after every sip! toast

there is such a thing as too much?really? when did that start?
one of my favorite winter blends is this: large coffee cup 3/4 full with real apple cider, you know, the nasty looking stuff, two shots of morgans spiced rum, warm in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes, add a small pat of butter and stir it in well, sit back in recliner and sip, perytt sono, ouy ondt tnaw to git otou teh cihar.frogte teh da turd one.

if you have a cold,or need a real kick start,(really,a reason?) add a shot of one ninety to the party.oh hell, who counts?
