Ok they make a mess in the boat. Will they keep for a while by themselves or just leave them in the saw dust? This is only for fishing not storage. Remember those yellow Lindy grub getter’s I loved those not perfect but they worked.

You can also use coarse ground corn meal.

My guess is the bedding is to help absorb moisture. If you are going to use up the waxies, eurolarva or whatever in one day I don’t see a reason to keep them in the bedding.

I found this page on them internets. https://flukerfarms.com/reptile-u/care-sheets/wax-worms-care-sheet It’s kind of interesting. I didn’t realize waxies are bee parasites, so don’t just dump them on the ground when done for the day.

Not bees. They turn into a big black fly thing. Havent you ever had left overs from winter then found them in the garage about may and open them up and they are alive in the container.

This is what he was referring to from the link posted.

“Waxworms (Galleria mellonella)are the caterpillar larvae of wax moths and are tan with black feet and small brown or black heads. They are considered a pest by beekeepers as they are a parasite in bee colonies in the wild. They have a very high fat content making them a perfect food source for many reptiles, amphibians, and some pet birds. Waxworms are also very easy to take care of and can survive for a long time at lower temperatures”.

You can separate them out of the bedding if just using for the day and then put them back in it when done.
Gets to be a pain getting them out of it each time but they don’t need the bedding for just the day.

I’ve had them turn into the black flies too. Really weird to see them flying around in the Spring and wonder WTH did they come from!

Yes more than once. To the OP I know it’s a new boat but you are worried about saw dust? Dirt from night crawlers now that’s a genuine problem. Just ribbing you!!

I get it John hah Yep I don’t even use night crawlers much or I put them in water works well. I just get tired of a 1 hour trip being 15 minutes of vacuuming the boat ah such problems in my life toast

Sawdust blows out on the way home. Nightcrawler dirt does suck but my biggest problem is always dads coffee that always seems to find it way out of the thermos to the carpet.

On the coffee thing, I had a buddy that always had to bring a thermos out with him in the morning and yes they all leak and are no longer allowed in my boat!!

I have a coffee stain right behind my shifter, Dad still says its not from him even though i have never tasted coffee in my life. Guess i will take the good with the bad. I would rather have the stain and him fishing with me then no stain and well you know.
