Just wondering if anyone has used the fenwick elite tech MH ice rods for lake trout. I was thinking of getting a 36″ MH, if I’m not lake trout fishing I would be using it for pike fishing on an IFish Pro.

I would not recommend it outside of a shack, the eyes are very small and ice up bad.

I use the 42” mh for lakers and it’s also the rod I use for Rippin raps on lake Winnipeg for green backs. The biggest lake trout I’ve caught was just under 10 lbs. no monster but handled it easily.

Do you have any buyers remorse? Like wish you would’ve bought a stiffer rod with bigger eyes or do you like the action but wish it had bigger eyes?

No remorse like the action and handle comfort, yeah wish they had bigger eyes but they are not that expensive and are nice rods I bought a second one so that says something. I never held a custom rod so I can’t compare it to one of those but build quality seems very nice. When I purchased mine there was a few on the rack so I went through all of them looking for the best cork and checking that the eyes were straight. Did find one that had a eye out of place. I’ve been meaning to try some of the reel and line spray to see if that helps but I just deal with. I’m sure the braid I use is part of the ice problem.

Awesome, thanks for your input. I think I’m going to pick one up.

I’m interested to hear how this works out for you for Lake Trout os I hope you report back. I have the 36″MH that I use for my IFP and really like it. I think it’s a great value.

I also picked up a Jason Mitchell 38″ MACK MH rod at Scheels. I’ve not used it yet but I like the action. I’m not as anxious to use it since I recently used a Jason Mitchell UL rod (26″?) catching crappies and bluegills that I was totally unimpressed with.

I was looking at the 36″ and 42″ elite tech rods at Joe’s yesterday. Anyone have any experience using these jigging heavier baits (1/2 oz +) for lake trout? I’d like to stay at 36″ to fit in my rod case, but willing to consider going to the 42″ if it makes a big difference? Both lengths are offered in M and MH.

They also had a 13 fishing rod in a 40″ length for just $20. Big game something or other. Didn’t feel quite as nice as the Fenwick but half the price.
