Good luck Brian and others. May you catch a hundred pounder!

I’ve seen your hands and wonder how you take a hook out of a gill. LOL!

We’re all working on that 100 pounder. She and her sisters are out there! woot

Do you think this cold front will affect the bite this weekend? Would it maybe push the sturgeon to a different location?

Tried getting out today, but just too windy for my meager anchoring skills. We called it after being blown around for 3 hours.

    Anyone need 5.5 dozen crawlers?

If you plan on going out again, just put them in the fridge. I’ve had them last over a month in decent condition sitting in the fridge.

Yes! Take her out again Doug! She’s worth it…she puts up with you! )

There’s a good bite on the Croix. If you can’t plan an evening at least work out a day when there is very little wind and it’s out of the Northish.

I’ve seen the dinners she’s made for you… keep her happy. woot

Was out Sunday and had some good action, but unfortunately nothing of any size. 7 fish boated and the biggest only 40.5″. Question then: if you are on a spot where fish are consistently passing through, do you hang out and fish there hoping larger fish move in, or do you move in search of larger fish?

It probably depends on who you talk to and more experienced sturgeon fishermen will know better than I but in the spring up on the rainy if I find a good spot I tend to sit on it longer as most fish are making their way up river to spawn. So they do come more in waves. On the St. Croix in the fall, I would assume they are following food mostly so I move around more. I’ll maybe spend 45-60 minutes in a spot before moving if they aren’t biting.

Depends on what you want to do with your time.

Had 3 in an hour last night. 20,25,35# all released boat side, no pics.

The 35# jumped twice immediately and then jumped right next to boat splashing me in face… Was trying to hold phone and rod with one hand the whole time and reeling with other (chatting with daughter) that was quite entertaining. Love a close boat side full body jump and splash!!

    Use the speaker phone! LOL!

Couple springs ago I was fishing with Ms Trumar. She was releasing a good size sturg when I saw another large one jump behind the boat…then the rod bent over.

I jumped 2 more times during the fight.

Now I’m in the back of the boat with the net waiting to see the sturg. Before I could move that dang fish came out of the water heading right to my face. Two more feet out of the water and we would have kissed! I have that image burned into my mind…freckled nose and whiskers was all I saw.

    Good times!

Fair point. The primary reason we didn’t move is other spots the cruisers were bouncing us around, so we used the shield of the new bridge no wake zone to feel the bites better.

They actually slow down for that no wake zone?

I think overall people are clueless to the no wake zones… After buoys are pulled. I think I had 12+ boats blow by me last night.

Worse things to worry about I guess.

As long as they stay at least three rod lengths away from me I just bitch a little…closer then that and they get the spot in their eyes.
