We just got out up by Bayport about 530. Marking some big fish coming through but no bites yet. Anyone else out?

How is the bite out there? I was supposed to be out tonight but for the first time I had no fewer than 4 people fall through on me. I went from planning on 2 boats to sitting at home. People suck. You guys out in front of the power plant? Good luck out there.

I am sitting up by the new bridge. 4 sturgeon and a channel in the last hr. Nothing over 40″ yet though.

Friday night was very slow for LS which normally pick up our baits through out the night. Channels and shovels kept us busy.

Cut bait was working just as well as crawlers for the first time in my boat this fall.

Not a mud puppy to be found at this time, but we did have a bunch of gibbles that we couldn’t hook. I wrote those off to small sheepshead because we did have a couple of those as well.

The larger of the shovenose sturgeon in the photos was 35″ with an 11″ girth. Longer then the MN or WI State record by a couple of inches but short of weight by a couple pounds.

Lots of fish but no river monsters this night.

Ended the night with 13or14 in the boat but never found any size. Two mudpuppies and one channel. The Gf could only catch shovels last night.

I kind of doubt shovels were caught on the croix. There are some but more than one in a day would be pretty unheard of. Likely they were just small lake sturgeon.

The pic you posted is a small lake not shovel.

Was out of Presscott this morning from about 4-10am. Wasn’t marking too many fish. Using crawlers and cutbait. Had one decent fish on for a short bit before coming off. Ended up skunked for the first time this fall. Never fished for sturgeon anywhere except rainy and Bayport so it was fun to try a new spot.

Decent sturgeon bite on the upper croix this afternoon. We usually get them on crawlers but today it was fat heads or suckers for most of them. Caught 2 mud puppies to. First for my boat for this year.
