Had a nice cruise of Pepin yesterday on a friends pontoon. The backchannel had 1 truck/trailer and Colville was not very busy either imho. Pretty windy at first but it settled down into a beautiful day. Lots of people fishing further down the lake, but didn’t see anyone coming or going from Hoksila where we stopped to swim for a while. Kelly’s on the Lake was an awesome tie up lunch too!

Any reports from Pepin lately? I haven’t been for a month or so and thinking of heading back down this weekend. North of Lake City, south of Lake City? Starting depths? Any help would be appreciated. Sure to put up a report if I make it down.
Thanks!

GertyPosts: 377August 5, 2024 at 6:45 am #2283984Had a great day on Sunday. Fishing the early part of the morning was lights out for about 1.5 hours. Then things slowed considerably also more boats showed up which could be the reason. Anyway, the trolling bite is good!
tim hurleyPosts: 5851mojogunterPosts: 3313September 30, 2024 at 10:59 am #2291454I have been out a couple of times the last 2 weeks. Bite has been pretty slow. 12 walleyes a week ago Saturday, and 10 walleyes a couple days ago. All came on crankbaits. Water temp is still over 70F, and lots of weeds floating on the surface fouling baits. This weather is ridiculous and it would be nice if it would cool off. I will be down next weekend for 4 days and hope the slightly cooler weather will help the bite. There were far too many pleasure boaters for the time of year, and I can’t tell you how many PWC’s, and even some tubers.
GertyPosts: 377September 30, 2024 at 12:03 pm #2291473Mojo thanks for the report. I will be down for 3 days the 11th – 13th. Will be interested in your report.

Havent been out for over a week but we found mainly saugers to play deeper off breaks on cranks.
Oct 11 .Fish should start pushing up into the river by then. Crank them dunes !
GertyPosts: 377October 7, 2024 at 1:14 pm #2292734Any report from your trip down? Wondering if you spent time on the lake, up in the river? What was the best presentation and depths? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Gerty

anyone been at it lately to see if it’s opened back up? Thanks!mojogunterPosts: 3313October 8, 2024 at 4:45 pm #2292910There is a detour to get in to covill. It is a PITA and you have to drive through a long amount of torn up roads and the dust is terrible. Today I went to Lake City instead of going through that crap again.

I found fish on the flats on Pepin. The quality of fish was much better on the lake than in the river. We also found fish in the can line and a few other spots in the river. All came on crankbaits. In the river speed seemed to be very important. 3.1 mph down and 1.8 up. Wonderbread color in a flicker shad and flicker minnow were best. Purple also did pretty well. 27″ was the biggest walleye we got. A boat next to me got a 29″.

October 9, 2024 at 8:07 pm #2293145What is considered the “flats” on pepin? Did you long line or use lead core for your fish? thanks
mojogunterPosts: 3313October 10, 2024 at 8:54 am #2293186East shore where there isn’t a big dropoff near shore. I was fishing in 11-13′ long lining.
October 10, 2024 at 10:52 am #2293227Wow thanks for the reply I guess I know why I cannot seem to catch a fish as I am targeting a lot deeper water when I go down there. Be hard for me to fish that shallow but will give it a try.
GertyPosts: 377October 13, 2024 at 10:13 am #2293637Fished Friday and Saturday. Had a group of guys with 3 boats. My boat never left the can line. The other two tried many different spots with little to no success. We did not tear it up on the can line, but we caught fish. Each day probably caught 15ish fish with 6 in the box one day and 5 the next. Was very hard to catch a fish after 11:00am. Almost all fish caught on #7 flicker shad. The one I am using has so much paint gone off of it that color must not be making a difference. It is a craw fish color. We didn’t go to the lake as we talked to someone who was there and said the floating grass was horrible. Other spots tried by the other boats; high bridge, high banks, hay creek, etc.
billy03z71Posts: 132October 14, 2024 at 8:39 am #2293784Fished from covil down to the can line yesterday, only kept 1 walleye and 1 Sauger and threw back a few small ones. Seemed to catch more out at the end of the can line but the wind got pretty strong and made it hard to fish.
October 18, 2024 at 8:35 am #2294624Fished from the can line up to the dam yesterday. Only rough fish until we got to the dam. Got 2 walleye up there. Saw two walleye/sauger caught at the lan can line.
October 18, 2024 at 9:10 pm #2294738I was the only idiot who went out of Roschen solo today. Holy hannah was it rough out there! Getting out was ok but I knew it would be a battle getting loaded but everything worked out thankfully. Wind was coming hard straight up the lake so I stuck to the MN side and got almost all my fish before noon. 2 smaller eyes and then some solid sheep to get the drag going. Went back through deer island and that was next to impossible to fish but did land an 8 pound cat and a striper so I consider that a win. All fish came on blades or glide baits. Next Monday I will be in the river I am thinking? It’s way too nice out there for this late into October. I think this may be the new normal and fishing into November with shorts and a t shirt might not be that crazy? I’m keeping the boat ready until Thanksgiving like the last few years as I don’t trust the weather.
Is Colvill still a pain to get to with the construction if anyone tried?
GertyPosts: 377October 21, 2024 at 7:08 am #2294985We went to Colvill last weekend. It is not bad getting through at all. Very short distance of construction.
mojogunterPosts: 3313October 21, 2024 at 8:42 am #2295004Are they still detouring through town and down the torn out sidewalk to get in like they were 2 weeks ago, or do you come in from the south east side like you would normally drive in? That was awful when you had to drive through town to get there.

GertyPosts: 377October 21, 2024 at 11:41 am #2295049When we were there, you exited off as normal and then had about 1 block of dirt/gravel until you turned down into the park.
mojogunterPosts: 3313October 21, 2024 at 1:03 pm #2295076That is good to hear. It was nasty coming from the other direction.

torfPosts: 15October 27, 2024 at 12:34 pm #2296137Fished the 18th and the 25th got a 2 man limit on the 18 but only managed 5 on the 25th. Threw the tackle box at them but nothing was killing them.
