Twin shaver blades with ring for reopening holes. Plastic flighting. 8″ is retailed for 219.00.

Talked with Eskimo yesterday, 3.9 lbs 8″, 3.2 lbs 6″. Was told it cuts a bit faster than the KDRILL, and much smoother.

It’s mostly marketing so ice anglers will spend more cash. Much like the k-drill, IMO. It won’t do anything that a regular ol’ $40 Eskimo auger can’t do. For $220 I honestly don’t think it’s worth saving 2 pounds especially once you put it in a 100# sled. 3 seconds faster drilling a hole isn’t worth it to me either. I mean, for that price, one could darn near build a whole new drill setup. Maybe it’s just me but when I see things like this I just scratch my head and wonder “why?”.

What’s wrong with the strikmaster lazer hand auger bit. Under half the price and cuts faster then a k drill

The flighting looks like the copy of the SM lazer synthetic hand auger which I have and love. Not too sure about the blades on the pistol, reminds me of the nero blades.

Bearcat – I’ll take that challenge. I’ll even give you my 2 holes to your 1 in 24″ of ice. if you can out-drill me with a Lazer Hand drill – I’ll buy you a steak dinner and all the drinks you can drink

I’m guessing that he’s talking about a Lazer hand bit on a cordless drill. whistling

Yes I put the bit on my hilti drill. I wanted a k drill but when gander went out of business I bought 2 lazer hand drills normally 99 bucks, I got them for 13 bucks each. And on my drill they cut like a banshee. They just dont have the floater foam on them. So sure fishthumper. I’ll take a nice ribeye I prefer my steak rare

Talking with people at the stpaul ice show I found out a couple things. The pistol bit is known for cutting more holes then the kdrill. It also has a longer shaft out of the box the the kdrill meaning it can cut through larger amounts of ice. I believe it was 36 inches. The kdrill has a flotation system to make sure it does not sink if I falls off your drill. But that said it could dive below the ice before it comes back up leaving it stuck under the ice. The pistol bit has a guard that is larger then the hole it is drilling meaning it will never fall through. The pistol bit allows for smoother cutting through clean ice but struggles to cut through old holes. But will last longer when cutting new holes. The kdrill allows you to reopen old holes with no problem. But the kdrill has some problems when cutting new holes. If u watch videos on it, most of the time you need to flush out holes a couple times before you cut all the way through the ice. This means that they don’t last as long. But in the end both are better options then full sized augurs in my opion.

So stick your hand under the ice and grab it…

have had the lazer for 12 years and the kdrill for 3.

the lazer’s blades are so finicky in our dirty ice here. at the beginning of the season its faster, as the year progresses its not. the kdrill i dont’ have to deal with it as much.

its also 2.5lbs heavier. when i drill 20-100 holes and outing it matters.

i don’t think the kdrill is anything super special. its been nice and worth the money in my opinion. although i got mine at a clearout price of 140 bucks.

Guess you could do that. Let me know how that goes when your on lake of the wood with 40 inches of ice and the kdrill is floating a foot away from your hole.

Anyone compare the 6″ pistol bit to the 6″ strikemaster lazer auger as far as how fast it cuts?

    (A) I’ve never had it plunge below the top of the water (only had it come loose a couple times, purely my fault)

    (B) So when you say “it could dive below the ice”. I take it that you have done the math, figured the weight versus the displacement, and determined that yes the physics will allow this to happen. Or are you just guessing? Or are you just blowing smoke? It is only going to drop the length of the auger, max. It’s not like the auger is going to do a cannonball off the high dive.

I’m reminded of this thread from last year…

Can’t get the link to work, but search “K-Drill does not float” and you’ll find the thread.

No center point and tends to walk is what was said on another site by someone who ended up with multiple stiches in his foot from using one…..

I bought the 8″ pistol bit this year to replace the ion bit I had the last 2 years. It cuts a lot smother and faster than the ion and seems to start better. The walk isn’t too bad as long as you start slow. It doesn’t grab at the bottom of the hole like the hand augers without the ring. The only thing I don’t like about it is I had to modify my digger auger rack because the shaft size is too big to fit in the plastic holders. All in all I am very happy with it.

Are the flights replaceable on the pistol?

The flights are replaceable. There are four sections with a retainer that is screwed on to the shaft. If you don’t want to replace one of the sections I think u can take it off and move the retainer down.

I have one with limited use because of not much ice here yet . Cut 45 holes in 6 inch ice and dewalt xr 20 5a battery still full. 13lbs vs 37 for my 10 inch jiffy. A little walking at start sometimes but not bad after I got use to it . Early yet but I like.

I had the 6 and the 8 pistol bit sent them back most dangerous augers I’ve ever used. The 8 walks so bad I cut my boot and after a few stitches sent them back and got a 6 inch K drill again. The pistol is slightly faster and you get a few more holes other than that forget it and for what little I used the 6 inch it needed blades already and I only used it for 2 weeks. Nope sorry biggest let down I have had in a product in a long time the K drill may not be the fastest but I can overlap holes with ease and the blades last a long time. Also the Pistol holds water so when you put it in your vehicle it all melts out on your floor it goes up in the shaft and stays. It needs a centering bit then it may be worth it but until then K_Drill rocks Worst thing I ever did was to sell it to get these. Now I have my new K Drill and happy again so are my feet.

Jason- can you post a picture of how you modified your digger to work with the pistol bit. Thanks!
