Just seeing if there would be any interest in getting a group together and do some skinny water smallie fishing this summer? I would be open to making it a one time deal or a couple times throughout the summer. All of my smallie fishing has been in the north metro but new water is always fun to fish.

If you guys want great skinny water smallies I would fish the zumbro river. I have not fished it personally but my buddy does often and he catches a ton of smallies, walleyes and muskies. If I were u I would look up a guy on here screen name mwal. He has gone with my buddy before and probably fished it a ton himself. He can probably point you into some great fishing.

I have fished the zumbro once from Oronoco down to the access on 12. Decent numbers on that trip but not much for size. We rented a canoe from the outfitter in Oronoco which was reasonable. We did the Root river out of lansboro last year which was a awesome float but the smallies were plenty small.

dbright, I may be interested. I got my wrist surgically fixed since you and I went out…I can actually cast again!

Count me as a an interested potential. I have 3 kids coming back from college this summer and the schedule could be a little crazy…but I think you have a good idea on this..

Count me in. Ill second the interest in big fish, and not #’s.

Are we thinking canoes here? I should be able to find one, probably throw a transom TM on it.

Think what u want fishing the zumbro. I’ve seen my buddies pics and he had some dandys. I don’t think he goes down as far as oronoco. And if your fishing skinny water I don’t know what your idea of big fish is. But my buddy has had some toads come out of the zumbro. But good luck in your adventure.

We have some amazing Smallie fishing up here if you’re interested in doing another non-skinny adventure. Boat or canoe, we have a plethora of lakes where bass between 20″-23″ are commonly caught and 24″ fish aren’t unreasonable targets. It is difficult for me to travel in the summer, so if you guys want to hit multiple destinations, considder Ely as one!

I would think canoes would make some water more accessible for most guys. I can use my jet and get 1 or 2 people out if they don’t want to fish out of a canoe. I know a few stretches on the Croix that are usable with 16’boats with caution.

Depending on where guys want to go there are plenty of rental places on the Croix and Mississippi. Which most are under 40 for the day plus they shuttle you.

Just setup camp on the Croix for the first time of the year.

With the season opening earlier this year and a good chance of low water early this year. How soon would you guys what to try getting out? Other then holiday weekends I don’t have much for commitments this summer.

Nhamm the site I stayed at was on the north end of a island and large bluff on the Minnesota side that kept the wind down. Took a couple waves over the bow with the boat loaded on the way back down to the truck on Sunday. I had one spot we got wet was where the river funnels down and had to been atleast 3′ waves with the wind blowing upriver. Luckily that was just a short stretch and not at the boat ramp.

The girl and I are making are first trip on the Upper St Croix this weekend. Smallies Friday and hopefully find a muskie Saturday. Sunday will probably be more smallies. I saw the water temp was 61 the other day in Danbury. Hopefully the water temps start climbing. I am ready for some top water smallies.
