Looks deadly. The Ion might be the prettiest but Gator and Strike Master sure have some functional units.

Anyone have an Ice Gator electric auger?

I tried a friends Strikemaster and it’s pretty nice to not prime, choke, pull, pull, pull. Not carrying gas. Hard to think of a downside, replacement batteries aren’t cheap but they’ll come down in time.
December 18, 2014 at 9:20 am #1485634I cant imagine not having one within a couple years. I’m sold.
I can always use the gas for late winter and especially when an extension is needed.Paul OwensPosts: 38December 18, 2014 at 9:49 am #1485663I’ve been looking at electric auger’s for this season and honestly I think I’m going to go with the Ion. It’s lighter, seems quieter, and has some cool features. I like the idea of the reverse to blow slush out of the hole after you drill it. Also the new quick change, and ice anchor attachments seem to make it fairly versatile as an all in 1 tool. When I go out, it’s usually for a half day and honestly I don’t drill 40 plus holes. The ice on my bays doesn’t really get more then 18 inches or so thick so the benefits of the Stikemaster and ice Gator for me personally didn’t seem to be that big a deal. I can see how if you were running and gunning from a sled or wheeler that you may want the faster auger that drills more holes per charge, but that’s not me. If I get to the point where I’m working from a sled, I think I’d actually prefer a 4 stroke Honda strikemaster. At that point, I’m not worried about fumes, noise, or weight. At least that’s my thought process since I’m in the same boat of currently shopping.

December 18, 2014 at 11:30 am #1485702I’ve hit my ice fishing budget for the year but it’s been in the back of my mind and Suzuki’s got me thinking more about it!
If I come home with one Mike I might have to tell the FW to call you to complain!
Peer pressure…December 18, 2014 at 1:31 pm #1485756Great. Your email just pushed it up a year for me! We’re just getting older. Time to replace the first ice hand augers with electric!!!!!

Not quite sure what you mean or which auger you are referring to. Please explain. Thanks.
December 18, 2014 at 1:33 pm #1485759Looks like a great item at only 24 lbs. Knock another 100 off the price and i would think about upgrading. They have an attachment to use a hand auger too. I could hook it up to my 5 inch strikemaster for early and late ice too. No need for mixing gas or burning yourself on a hot auger exhaust manifold.

Exactly, I got a lithium weed wacker this past summer and it has some serious power. I can trim the yard six times on a charge. There are other tools in the same line that the battery will work on. Blower, hedge trimmer etc…
