Looking for my first one and am overwhelmed by the options. I think it’s the kind of thing that I’ll just need to buy something to get my feet wet and then later on upgrade based on what my needs are, but at the same time, I want to at least try to buy the right one that I will be happy with for the longest time possible.

Initially I’m looking at building some game boards (not cribbage) that I plan to give to friends and family and eventually sell both online and at in-person craft fairs.

So my initial requirements are 2×4 work area. 4×4 would eventually be nice in order to double what can be produced from a single board. But again, I need to start somewhere.

If you can find a used Haas Mini Mill, those would be ideal for a garage. Light, and would handle what you’d be doing

I’m wondering if he’s looking for a CNC-controlled woodworking router, or a real metal-working CNC mill?

You want a CNC router, most mini mills don’t have the table travels you are looking at.Grizzly makes an ok CNC router, and some of them can also do light engraving.

I have had an overseas CNC router and I would stay away from them. They work ok at best. Depends on how serious you are about it and what you are going to do. I would look at the shopsabre 23 CNC. You can get tool touch off and other options as you grow. The tool touch off saves so much time and is super nice. Their customer support is unreal amazing. I have two of their machines and love them. I know there are others but buy once cry once.

I have a 5×5 cnc router, built my own about 10 years ago.
