So I’ve always been delayed on firearm purchases, no big deal because I never need anything right at that moment. About a year ago I was denied on a purchase and I didn’t think to much into it. Cabelas had entered my information incorrectly at first and this info was cleared intitially and I corrected them on it after the transaction was cleared. After they did the background with correct info I was put on a hold then eventually denied. I thought this was weird being that I’ve bought firearms legally my entire life. Fast forward a year and I go to buy a firearm, was delayed, then eventually denied. Ok now this is a really big deal. So I applied for a UPIN through the FBI. I was denied of this too. Reason they gave was because of a Class B misdemeanor in Illinois in 1998. A class B misdemeanor is punishable by a maximum of a 180 Days. My denial said that I cannot buy firearms because I was convicted of a crime punishable by over a year in jail and gave this case. The short of the case was me and some buddies were having some beers sitting on top of a water tower when I was 18, just dumb kid stuff. I have had my carry permit for the last 10 years in MN and am renewing again next month. MN has never brought this up. I’m unsure what to do. The FBI deemed me unfit for a firearm now 20 years after this even though I’ve bought at least 15 firearms legally during this time and never had a problem getting a carry permit. If anyone has delt with this or know where I can get help with straightening this out it would be appreciated.

They still run a background check on you even if you have a concealed carry permit? In Iowa if you have a concealed carry all they ask for is the card and your ID to verify you are who you say and no background check is done. Maybe ask about that? But Minnesota could have different laws about this.

I would start by calling the BCA help desk. Just Google MN BCA for the number.
