Greetings all, just stumbled across the forum looking for ice updates. I am located in western Colorado but I am planning on traveling to ND and Minnesota this season. We have safe ice over 10,000′ here but it will be about a month before the good lakes are capped.

Love that your ice conditions are described in elevations. For perspective my elevation is about 75ft. As in its 75 ft to the bottom of the Red River valley. In MN our ice conditions are Out West- walkable ice mostly. Up Nort- making ice every day. Down South- not so sure don’t go to the cities much. Directions are arbitrary and variable so take it for what it is.

Does a wanna be count?? If it wasn’t for my addiction to my wife, I would have been in WY/CO almost 40 years ago.

Still seeking my Granby giant laker. Quite a few high 20’s and couple 30’s. I know there is bigger in there

    Welcome

We have fishable ice, 2 hours to blue mesa, 1″-4″. Elevation around 6000′. Antero is 2″-6″ but a large pressure ridge. Taylor Park, 2″-10″ with a foot of snow on top. Of course anything over 9000′ is good. I saw skim is here at 4200′ today.

How are the numbers? I love big perch but rifle gap and Harvey Gap kick out one or two big fish every year but I am over catching a hundred 4″ fish for every 12″ plus.

I have never iced Granby, blue mesa is way closer to me and I have personally seen a 75 pound laker along with the perch are doing well in there.

Wow, a 75lb laker. Too bad it wasn’t certified because it would have broken the current world record by 3lbs.

It was pulled up in a gill net and killed by the crappy Dow. The Colorado disaster of wildlife is out to kill all game fish on the west side of the Rocky mountains.

Blue Mesa was an annual go to for us when the Kokes were thriving. Seeing your love for the DOW it was they that let the gill lice get introduced thru private hatchery stocking. I guess that gill lice is not a pathogen DOW checks for. Same thing happened to 11 mi
There is fish able ice on devils lake ND and my friend states that they had been catching eyes shallow. The kicker is it is -8 dega with 25 mph wind that is just a walk in the park for those northern boys/girls

I can go on for days about how many places the Dow has screwed up. The most ridiculous thing is when I call them out on the stocking of the non native rainbow trout they don’t believe me. I was threatened with a ticket for catching and releasing small mouth at Ridgeway, the guy even said that I should just throw them on the bank. When I asked him if I could throw the trash trout on the bank he said I could be arrested for that. If it wasn’t for the great jobs my wife and I have we would be long gone.

I will be in Boulder the week of Christmas and would appreciate any general suggestions of a place to sneak away to for a day on the ice.

I have fished Dillion and 11 mile in past but looking to maybe try something different

Any thoughts on Granby, Chambers, or Georgetown for getting on some fish- not really worried about size / quality vs getting a newbie or two that will be with me on some fish.

Not looking for specific spots – just some general thoughts / advice.

    Thanks

    Thanks

I can’t really speak about the East side of the mountains. I know Georgetown can be good for numbers, depending on how far you want to drive antero is hot for big fish.
