Dang man, nicely done! Even played it half step down like the original!
Do I see some Kramer guitars in that vid?
August 2, 2016 at 2:59 pm #1632019Sorry, no Kramers in this vid. The lead guitarist (center dude) still owned a Night Swan at this time but here he was playing a custom Warmoth. He once had a Kramer that was technically some kind of a “V” by description but it was actually a Shark Fin body. He put the Warmoth neck on that Shark Fin but it didn’t place correctly in it’s fit so he bought a custom body to fit the neck. Given the rarity of what he had, because Kramer “never made” shark fins, he still kicks himself for not keeping the parts.
The Rhythm player to the left (right side of screen) was playing Jacksons at the time. I don’t remember the model but it was a popular name, neck through construction and listed at like $1500. The local music shop was re-fretting an American made one he had in “Pepto Pink” he found second hand for a steal, and they dropped it. Broken. So this Japanese was the replacement equivalent. It never did sound like “Pepto” so he eventually dumped it.

In this vid, you’ll see the Kramer Night Swan and “Pepto”.
CrankbaitPosts: 365August 4, 2016 at 2:52 pm #1632427That’s crazy! I had to go down to the basement and dig through my box o’ guitar parts and sure enough, I still have my old Kramer “V” body. Pretty sure I still have the Floyd Rose bridge for it somewhere. Here’s a pic of it on a pile of other oddities with a, yep, Warmoth neck!
The original neck was destroyed after a 100 watt Marshall head came crashing down from a stack of 4×12 cabs and landed on the guitar which was leaning up against the stack. The amp was totally unfazed thankfully, but the Kramer didn’t fare as well.
That guitar shape was born from the mind of Randy Rhoads and became the very first Jackson guitar ever made. I was a huge Rhoads freak so I had a soft spot for that shape. Owned an actual Rhoads Jackson before I sold it to help fund my relocation to LA and enrollment at GIT. Ended up getting a sweet San Dimas Charvel straight from the Jackson/Charvel custom shop that I still own.
I’ll say again you guys rocked! Unfortunately, I think we were all about 10 years too late when along came that gawd awful sludgy Nirvana sh*t.

August 4, 2016 at 5:27 pm #1632458Thanks for the affirmation Crankbait! We weren’t the greatest thing since sliced bread but we had a lot of fun and amazingly, 25 years later, we still get talked about and people seem to remember us.
Had to laugh at the Nirvana comment! LOL – During that phase of the industry, we used to joke around in the basement and say that we were never going to “make it” be we didn’t suck enough!
I wasn’t out in LA so I’m not even sure what that rat race looked like but around here, we had a few decent groups that should’ve gotten a second look. Mariah and Gemini being two of the best. Amazing talents!
Funny this should all come up now…… I just got a call yesterday to see if I wanted to fire up the old bass and reform “K9 Zowie”. Lead singer of Brass Kitten, drummer from GB Leighton, a studio guitarist that’s worked with some household names, a sessions player from San Francisco, and little ol’ me, from Third Degree. It was a solid cover outfit I did in my waning days….. but the idea is to start playing the casinos so….. hang on, I might be back in action at ‘sino near you! It’d be great to trade some stories!
Oh yeah, that looks like the body. Brad’s was white. You should find a Kramer neck and rebuild it! You don’t see those very often!
