I’m on the fence, been a little under the weather & am getting the feeling that the boss would like me to stay home, could be the last weekend of good ice at the launches (yes you people with long planks that you can scale will have another week) Anyone going?

I’ll be out around Brainerd area tomorrow for sure. Maybe Saturday. Last Sunday the lakes still had 30” or so of ice

Instead of a plank to access the ice my brother and I use a ladder. One of those multi foldable jobs like a Little Giant. Works slick.

Yup we all know the ice does not vanish just because we get a 50 or two, but we do have to be careful where we put in, I have even picked my lake based on this.
    Good luck everyone.

Smoked the crappies tonight. Wish I could post a video driving threw the slush on the wheeler. Needed a boat more than a wheeler.

I’m going to head out in a couple of hours. I saw a couple guys out there on Friday afternoon. If it’s slushy I’ll come back home.

Deertracker- were they up shallow in the weeds or basin fish? Went out yesterday and found some nice gills in 5’ but no crappies. Couple nice bucketmouths too which was interesting that shallow.

I started in 14 feet. This was on a drop and was only 10 yards from 5 feet. We were getting small perch. Moved about 10 yards away to 27 feet and instantly caught crappies. The best fish were about 10 feet off the bottom. Never tried shallower because the graph was lit up all evening. We left at 8 and fish were still biting but I was hungry. Was surprised we were on crappies an hour and a half before dark. We are headed out earlier today. Now that I broke a road open travel should be easier.

I went out first with the house to break the road open. Then went back for my son.

Fished yesterday morning on a southwest metro lake. Didn’t do very well but I’ve had 6 good to very good outings in a row since mid February so I was due for a clunker. Walked out for the first time. Mainly wanted to try the Smitty sled I built 2 months ago and the new Kenai XT Thermal. It’s been too nice to need a house and good ice that I could drive previously. Both worked great. Only caught one keeping size bluegill but many too small and 1 crappie I could have kept but didn’t. Caught a little, little largemouth. I could see the bite on the Tickle Stick. Really like that rod. The jig is a 4 mm to give you and idea of the size of the fish.
