Update as of 6/3/21: I received my federal tax refund that was filed in February. It was “adjusted” to a lower amount than what was filed by my accountant and they indicated that a letter is coming to explain why.

I screwed up one year on one of the first lines…they sent a letter explaining it and basically completed the rest of my 1040 for me…kind of thought about doing that every year and having them just do my taxes for me! Would save me some time and money. devil (but can’t wait to hear what the accountant says doah )

If there is a simple mistake like that, its my accountant’s fault. Not mine. I pay him to do my taxes every year and it only takes him about 30 minutes. Create a problem, fix the problem.

while i do not disagree with your thoughts, i’m pretty sure that really small print right below where you sign it says you are responsible that the information on the tax form is true and accurate?????????

Yes, there is a disclaimer that I agree to. In this statement, there is also a disclaimer that indicates that if I’m audited or there is another similar issue, the accountant agrees to represent me.

An adjusted refund may or may not qualify as a “similar issue.” This is the the first time its ever happened since I’ve been in the work force.

he may represent you……but he is merely transferring the information you gave him to the tax form…..

granted the bean counter is human and can make mistakes………..

If you are truthful and pleasant with the IRS they usually take it easy on you with fines and fees.

Update – After many more attempts to get through to the 800 # provided I’m still not able to reach anyone and keep getting the same message ” do to the high number of calls they can not answer my call at this time. Try back again later or tomorrow ” I tried to go back in and do the process online – Got the same message as before ” You must verify your Info. at the 800 phone #. I’ve tried the # at 7:00 am when they open, I’ve tried it at 7:00 pm when they close, and Have tried it most every hour in between. They have a message saying that even though the letter says you must complete this process within 30 days of receiving the letter the IRS will continue to work with me after the 30 days. Boy that sure is nice of them !!!!
