I know the Neg. Covid test is no longer required. Just the travel Can. app and proof of the 1st 2 vaccinations ( Booster not required ) I also see you are subject to random quick testing. Has anyone who has crossed the border lately been tested???? With this latest variant I here there are people still testing positive on quick test for 30 days or more after being over covid. It would really suck to drive 5 hr’s to your border crossing and end up having to turn around and head back home because of a failed random test. I don’t want to start the whole covid debate thing. Just curious if anyone has been tested at the border when crossing lately.

Anyone cross the border into Canada lately ???

I crossed May 21.
Did Arrive CAN and showed up at the indicated time. Took my passport and nothing else ( you scan your vax card into the Arrive can)
Easy peasey – same as return – passport, any fish, welcome home
I had the VID 2.5 weeks prior to going -so not sure if I would have tested positive if they had tested me.
Tough sledding on Rainy right now – REALLY high water levels. I am waiting to go back for a while ( would have been there last weekend otherwise)
Landings suck on Rainy Lake and landings at your destination on Rainy are dubious.
Good lucktswobodaPosts: 8809June 7, 2022 at 11:34 am #2128539They’re not rapid tests and you won’t get results for 4-7 days if you do get selected. We had 3 guys get random tested at the border in January and no one got results until 7 days after the test when we were all back home. Sorry that’s not recent info but according to Canada’s travel.gc.ca site nothing has changed with random testing since then.
blankPosts: 1790June 7, 2022 at 11:52 am #2128544I crossed at the end of April and it was simple. Handed them our passports like usual, they can see that we completed the ArriveCAN app correctly, asked us the normal questions and we were on our way. Pretty much the same simple process as pre-covid.

June 7, 2022 at 12:40 pm #2128560Does anyone know why you need to be vaccinated to enter Canada?
Probably the same reason Canadians have to be vaccinated to enter the USA.

Do you know why you’re trying to get this thread locked?

Haha. I was thinking the exact same thing.

Well that’s good news. I assumed it was the rapid test. Not sure how helpful the slow test is if the results are not found till later ( Possibly after being back home )

I’m going to go with their country their rules. Either follow or don’t go. I’m sure the US has similar restrictions on different foreign travelers comming into the US

Angler IIPosts: 532June 7, 2022 at 1:40 pm #2128583We are headed to Reed lake on Friday. That random test had me a little concerned. We were planning on going last Friday but pushed the trip back due to there still being ice on the lake till after the Memorial day weekend. I wanted to be close to ice out but not that close. The timing should be perfect for this trip. Its been 3 years since most US fishermen have fished this lake. I’m thinking the fishing should be really good. The lake doesn’t get much fishing pressure from Canadian fishermen. I’m really looking forward to the trip.

I think that is the lake a co-worker goes to. He’s done it for many years with his brothers and friends.
June 7, 2022 at 2:01 pm #2128598I’m just curious, not stirring the pot.
Why would anyone drive 15 hours, put up with the crossing rules, spend a boat load of money on gas, etc…
When there are quite a few really good walleye lakes closer and cheaper overall?Just the experience?
Guess I’m a cheap ass and can find the experience without paying so much for it.June 7, 2022 at 2:02 pm #2128599<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>fishthumper wrote:</div>

The guy I’m going with has been going for 20+ year. I think this will be my 3rd trip. Great trip. Long drive ( 14 Hrs from here in St. Cloud ) Camping only and no electricity so it makes it a little difficult, but the great fishing is well worth it. Big Pike, Lakers shallow, and almost endless walleye – Oh My !!!

Guess I’m a cheap ass and can find the experience without paying so much for it.You tell me where here in Minnesota that I can catch upwards of 40 Pike over 40″. Lots of 5-8 Lb. lake trout on light equipment in shallow water, and almost endless walleye ( Some over 30″ ) in a week of fishing and I’ll be more than willing to give it a try. Yes with the current gas prices its a little more $’s. You can always earn more money, but you only have so much time left in life. Other than Gas expense – This trip is rather cheap. Its a campground only and the camping fee’s for the week are far less than 1 night in a cabin. 7 day license is cheap. We tend to eat rather cheaply as well. Hamburgers, hotdogs and a few nice steaks is about all the food expense is for a week. We normally have a shore lunch a few days as well.

Yep, just asked him. They had been going for years, but he isnt going up now. He said this is generally the time of year they would go. They have been there and watched the ice melt before.

Guess I’m a cheap ass and can find the experience without paying so much for it.I’m with you Haley. Driving that far while towing a boat the whole way just doesn’t really appeal to me either. I don’t even like towing my boat more than a couple hours to be honest.
I’m not going to knock someone that does it though (and I didn’t think you were either). Everyone has their own form and standard of entertainment, and some are willing to go farther than others. A lot of times these annual trips just tend to be a tradition with family and/or friends. Kind of like deer camp in the fall. I have relatives who go and its literally the only time of year they fish. Canada is the only place they can catch fish.

Got it. That makes sense. I was thinking walleye not the rest of the species to be had there.
Sounds like a fun trip. Expensive probably but what isn’t these days and you can’t take it with you.

Have a good trip!THe most expense on a trip like this is obviously the fuel. We go to Canada on LOW in a couple weeks and you could goes days without seeing other boats at times. You are not fighting other boats over spots, etc. The gas prices are certainly going to sting this year. I am sure it will be over $5 by the time we leave. Excited to be back because the fishing is spectacular. In 2019 my boat with 3 guys boated over 600 walleyes. One year, coincidentally the first year I went, we had 40 fish over 24″ in my boat.

Have a good trip!My father use to say ” I’ve never seen a Brink’s truck follow a hearse to the cemetery ” I often think about that when I have to justify the cost of a trip such as this !!! I’m sure if he was still alive he would have wished he had made more trips and memories like this before he died.
June 7, 2022 at 2:47 pm #2128622Vicariously excited for you guys. The lack of American pressure the last few years combined with the ice just recently going out sounds like a dream. I’d love to bring a bunch of pike that size topside and be along for the ride as they smash whatever you’ve got under the water for them.
Have a good time.

Very sad and not logical. But that’s the world we live in. I was at the point in life to start going to Canada on my own with my son but we didn’t get a shot so we can’t. Oh well. Tons of places to explore is the US
June 7, 2022 at 4:34 pm #2128645Eventually I think they will drop the vaccine requirement/proof of it. It’s not like they asked for proof of validation against other diseases before this pandemic. When that day comes, we can only theorize.
June 7, 2022 at 7:05 pm #2128667I have been reading the responses here and have tried to figure out a response, and if I should respond at all.
First off, where I and a few of my family/friends have been going to in Canada for a long time, I highly doubt anyone could put a week of fishing together resulting in the number of walleyes and northern we catch anywhere in the upper midwest or the US for that matter. That makes it well worth the drive and costs (no guides for us and we bring our own food/gas/bait for the most part)
There are some that have come up with us in the past that are not getting vaccinated and they understand they cannot go back at this time. They also understand that them not going is not keeping the rest of us from going to Canada.
Bottom line is that everyone has their choice and you have to understand the impacts of that choice. Everyone is free to make their own choice but should also respect everyone else’s choice without pushing your choice on someone else (not saying that is happening here, just making a statement). That is the beauty of our country
Our group is planning on crossing in just over a week and we cant wait to get back up there
