Heading up with the family next week, and was wondering if anyone has any intel. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there. I’m going to assume that they’ll be on the reefs, and a jig/shiner or fathead will get the job done? I haven’t tried main lake points nor breaks at all in the past. I spend most of my time on the east side of the lake.

I’m going on August 15th for a week and was there over July 4th. I’v been checking for the last few days and the word is they are mostly on the reefs 25′ to 30′ and hitting night-crawlers and leaches while moving slowly. Some are still on windy points. I’m assuming you are refering to Walleyes. Water levels should be near normal. For some reason this forum has been quiet lately. At this time of year if the wind Gods are being nice I find east of the Brule to be best. If you have a smaller boat pay attention as the waves can get in the 4′ range by mid day. Good luck.
July 28, 2015 at 1:41 pm #1556797Just got back from Rainy Mon. thru Thur. last week… caught plenty of fish on the first two days even with a moderate cold front passing through & NW winds… Once the warm front or high pressure rebuilt, the wind switched to the east and died… and it got HOT!!! We managed to find a few fish on the humps and reefs, but without the wind it was torture to try to stay on them as they were plenty scattered. Although I considered jigging & ripping Raps, I stayed with minnows most of the time (we did catch fish on crawlers and leeches), althought the last two days they were almost impossible to keep alive in the 74* surface water temps. Again plenty of eater sized fish with 26.75 & 27″ fish being the two biggest of our 3 day trip. Depth on structure was dependant of the overall depth of the area of the system were fishing in, but in the deeper waters 25′- 35′ seemed to be an appropriate depth range.

July 30, 2015 at 10:36 am #1557155Thanks guys!! I’ll report when I get back. I’ll have to give crawlers/leeches a shot. Usually only used shiners up there.

Reef fishing was very good with the usual pattern of jigs and slow trolling spinner rigs providing good fishing. The sleeper pattern was fishing current with weeds.
With good flow this year we found our better fish in both the Canadian and American channel.Current over rocks near deep water and weeds gave us the nicest fish. Even though it is almost August don’t assume that all the fish are out in the main lake! Fishing plastics, jerk baits and tubes provided some excellent fishing for both numbers and size.

Stupid work keeps getting in the way of fishing and then updating this forum
Did any of you see my winning lottery ticket? Must have misplaced it somewhere.
