I just got back from my winter vacation. Two nights at balmy Red Lake.

I’m on the side of not wanting to travel unless it’s a hunting trip out west or a maybe a fishing trip up north. I think traveling for work ruined it for me. I leave monday for a week in the St Cloud FL area. I’ll be home for 2 weeks, and then head back down to the same place for 2 more weeks to train my coworkers. Worst part is every time I get sent to FL in the winter we end up with nice weather in MN. It looks like next week is no exception

    AMEN Werm!
All I can think about is fishing mangroves for reds, snook and speckled sea trout right now. I keep telling my wife that once the kids are out of the house (about 5 years) I want to explore changes in our living situation. Still gotta keep a homebase for the kids and family in MN, but would love to downsize and find a somewhat affordable way to snowbird it for at least a month or two a year… She can come with if she wants, or at least visit… rotflol

We are kind of in the same boat. We actually just went through all of our retirement/future plans with our financial advisor and attorney the past couple weeks setting up a will and all that.

My kids have a lot more than 5 years left with us, but the plan is to keep our homestead here in Minnesota and the land until it’s logical to turn it over to the kids. From then forward they can pay the taxes on it, collect the lease income, and it will be a 9 month home for the Mrs. and I until we can’t manage in the country anymore. The other 3 months will be spent somewhere warm. I grew up snowmobiling, skiing, ice fishing and all that…but my body already is showing signs of wear and tear that don’t really equate to living in Minnesota for 12 months.

You are not the only one. I am 66 years old and live in Northern Wisconsin and have no desire to travel. Cringe thinking about the hassles of flying. (TSA, delayed flights, dealing with morons.) Perfectly content to stay close to home year around.

The older I get the more I hate the south. Southern vacations are just not my thing. I’ll save every vacation day going north. Our next planned one is August for a Alaskan cruise for 10 days, but there will be multiple trips to the Canadian land for fishing trips for now till then.

I feel like the older I get, the more I relate to EPG which is scary to admit. For example, there’s certain things I’ve learned to give up my ice fishing and Minnesota/Wisconsin Winters for…and a getaway with my wife in Barbados is one of them. It serves as a great reminder of how well I did in outkicking my coverage too smash

Hopefully we will be back for a 4th time next Winter. For now it’s a warm stateside getaway with our third monster arriving in June.

Not me…I’ll take a tarpon over a walleye all day, everyday. June is for Canada.
