Parts of the Gulf Coast are under a Blizzard Warning. First I have ever heard of that.

We used to go to PR every year about this time. Now that our daughter is older we are beholden to the spring break schedule.

Waiting til the end of March stinks. Turks and Caicos this year, though. New place for us.

Was excited to get to go to Charlotte next week for some work I’m doing, hoping that maybe it would at least be in the 60s. But NOPE! Looks like 30s for lows and highs in the 50s with rain. Beats -20, I guess.

Oh man I was on the beach in South Padre a couple weeks back and we had 40s, rain, and wind almost every day. Then last weekend north of the border with the -40 windchill. Can’t get away from it this year.

Thinking about heading south permanently! The older I get the more I really hate the cold, and this state keeps giving me other reasons too.

My wife and I had an AirBnB booked for the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in SC for Feb and March. My son lives about 20 miles from there and we were going to use this time to explore the area for a possible move. He says it is unseasonably cold there (27) right now, but it does not last long. I had to cancel our trip today as my wife is having some medical issue. I know 27 is not as warm as way south, but we like that area as it does not get as hot in the summer also with the mountains being close.
Hopefully we can get her taken care of and travel there some other time.

We’ve been on South Padre since Jan 2 and we’ve had 5 or 6 warm weather days. This morning it’s 39 degrees and raining with a 34mph wind.

Just chiming in…no ill intent here but am I the only 65 year old guy who doesn’t care to travel…like at all? Everyone I know, family, friends all travel…some like big time travel a couple huge trips each year. My wife and I? Happy as can be here at home. We have the money if we wanted to (maybe that’s partly why we have money!) just no need or desire. Of course it is easier to stay around here as the kids/grandkids are all in the cities as well. If the kids were elsewhere, I guess it’d be a different story. My folks wintered down if Florida every year since the early 80s…we never once went to stay with them…not once. Anyway, I agree with Sharon, about zero degrees it all seems the same to me.

That’s the hard part about staying in the US this time of year. I’ve been to the Keys in early Feb when it’s 80 and perfect. It’s also been 60 and a howling wind. That’s why we like PR…easy to get to and it’s always warm.

We went to Scottsdale right after Christmas and got really lucky. It was 75 and sunny the few days we were there. Before and after it was 50’s with wind and rain.

Friend of mine leaves today for Africa for a photo safari. I’m guessing it will be warm there.

I also have never had any interest in traveling. I did it for work for many years and learned to hate the whole airport expierence. I envy (a little bit) the guys in the warm weather this time of the year. Then I look at the calender and realize the worse of the cold is over in 4 weeks. I can tough it out. Now if I worked outside I might have a different opinion. jester

Before I met my FW I was that way, my favorite “travel” was to LOW or Red. Then we went on our honeymoon, left MSP when it was -20 and landed in Punta Cana to an open air airport and 86 degrees and a drink shoved in your hand changed my mind pretty quick.

My wife and I went to Africa about 10 years ago. We spent a week in cape town and then a week on safari. Also went cage diving with great white sharks. By far the best vacation and experiences we have ever had. The people were the friendliest I’ve ever been around and they love Americans because we spend and tip well. If anyone is looking for a bucket list trip, South Africa is worth a look.

I like the airport but I’m not a hurried traveler. I’ve got almost a million miles on delta so I have a pretty good process for the airport. Now that our daughter is older my travel has been cut way back. I’m glad I did most of it when I was younger.

Ha! That reminds me…one of the last times we flew anywhere we were in Vegas in March. Got to the airport to fly home and a major issue with the plane grounded us. I remember they finally sent another plane from MSP…we were stuck at that airport for 8 hrs! To add insult to injury…once we got back to MSP, we took a shuttle to my truck at one of the off site parking lots. It had snowed about 15″ and it was extremely cold. That was definitely an influence on my attitude!

I’m with Karl no desire to travel for vacation. Hunting or fishing trip maybe but the wife and I are happy doing our own thing with the kids and their activities. Last year my parents went to Florida and wanted us to come with all expenses paid and this year is Texas same all expenses paid. We have declined both times. Just not our thing.

That airport is one of the worst airports in the country! You would think they would have a better airport for such a destination it is. MSP is really one of the best Airports in the country.

We’re headed to Palm Springs, California in 2 weeks…can’t wait after this past week. I’m looking forward to the private heated pool set to 80 degrees, no clouds, with air temps in the low 70s every single day. I might have to dust off my golf swing seeing as we’re 30 yards off the tee box too. I love watching everyone shoot their morning round in puffy jackets and a stocking hat when it’s 55 degrees…while my girls are fine-tuning their cannon balls into the pool. We often get strange looks

Used to go to Mexico every winter but haven’t for many years because I don’t want to board two dogs. I liked going but the cold is much worse after you come back! Doesn’t really bother me just being here.

I had some estate work in AZ the 1st week of December 2023. 68 in the morning and got up to 84 in the afternoon. Locals wearing coats and snowbirds in shorts and t-shirts. Crazy.
