Anybody Been to the Mudflats?

Was out on the flats yesterday, June 12. Took a while to get out to them with the east wind. Started banging them with a lindy rig and leech on east side of the flat at the bottom of the drop. Probably 6 or 7 in 90 minutes. First time in my new boat (1875 Pro Guide) that I back trolled with the outboard, Yamaha 90 VMAX SHO. It worked great. Normal idle is 700 rpm and you can drop it down to 500 rpms in 50 rpm increments. When wind dropped more switched to the Vantage. Less wind brought more people out to the flats and the bite slowed down a lot. Caught fish every flat I tried but the bite did slow down mid day and in the afternoon. You didn’t have to give the fish that bit much time before setting the hook or reeling (circle hook). I checked the hour meter today and it’s at 20.8. Time to do the 20-hour maintenance tomorrow.

I put up a consistent 35-40lbs for pre fishing and the AIM tournament yesterday…

I run braid to a snap swivel. I 3/8-1/2 bullet weight. 5ft fluoro leader with a number 2 hook. I had been using Lindy minnow rig snells but I ran out.

I have been pulling around large creek chubs with good success. Like Fife said, the fish are scattered. Go until you find fish and then put a waypoint on them. Then pull through those fish.

One flat on Friday I pulled 35-38lbs in a matter of 40 minutes.

Is that a “real” weight or is that the standard converted weight they’re using for the length these days? Because we all know that the walleyes in Mille Lacs are super skinny… jester

AIM weight conversion….. We know the Mille Lacs walleyes don’t come close to those converted weights. But I pulled consistent 26-28″ fish.

These fish weren’t skinny off the mud this morning.

Spent some quality time on the mud flats this past weekend. Did the most part, great fishing. Lindy rigging and slip bobbers with jumbo leeches.

I spent last Thursday thru Sat on various flats and gravel bars. Gravel with leeches was better for us. After catching 30+ walleyes over 20″ on Sat in 4 hrs and seeing the crazy amount of boats scattered throughout on the lake I’m glad that the fish are now getting a break.
If there was a keepable slot size Im sure the lake would see so much pressure that it would not be able to stay open for long. I saw a dozen or so dead floaters as well, along with a 28″+ washed up on the shoreline next to my dock.
