Brennan, I will soon be a Utah ice fisherman. Moving out on Wednesday. You from there?
I’m in Utah up north in Cache County, where are you moving too USAFCATM? I think between Brennon and I we can point in the direction of fish do you like trout haha?
Zipdog would probably be your most helpful info for up north. I live smack in the middle of the state and fish mostly central utah lakes. But if ya ever make it down to Fish Lake hit me up! I’d be more than happy to introduce a fellow IDO lover to the lake!
Brennon I will take you up on that offer. My family will not be travelling with me for a while so I will have some spare weekends if you are willing to put up with me!
Question for this group, I have a 2007 1750 Tyee which I love to fish from. Is it an appropriate boat for that area and the reservoirs? Or should I store it here and sell it in the spring?

I don’t fish Utah that much but being a Wyoming boy but from what I have fished down there I would say that that boat is about perfect. I have a 1750 tracker pro guide that I take down there and is great. So I would definitely say bring it with you.
If you are a walleye guy in the salt lake area look into willard bay. Has some decent eater size eyes and some nice wipers in there which are a blast to catch.
Side note if you ever make it up to western Wyoming hit me up I am always fishing when i’m not hunting that is. So cold up here all I have to play with are trout ling and kokanee though which is why I end up in eastern wyoming utah and idaho quite a bit chasing other species. The lakers should be getting fired up here really quick so its game on through early ice.
Thanks for the info as well as the offer Ryan. I am getting really excited about the pending move. Will be packing the hunting and fishing gear on the truck first to ensure easy access once I get out there! The wife and kids will not be coming out immediately so I may be able to get out chasing game and fish sooner vs later.
USAF… First off thanks for your service! Secondly congrats on the move… If were you I would be spending every free weekend I had trying to figure out flaming gorge lakers. Just a quick google search should show you why

I second that!!! I’ve never done it myself but it is on my bucket list… There are some real bruisers there, I’d love to get one through the ice. You may also look into Strawberry, no walleye there but some real nice trout. We go there often during the ice season but it’s also a great place to put the boat in.
I’d third that. I fish the gorge quite a bit being only an hour and a half away and there are some great fish to be had in there. I usually don’t target the lakers though since I regularly catch 20 pounders out of the lakes by the house but the kokanee in the gorge are fantastic so are the ling if you catch it right.
This is at fish lake in central utah 41 lb laker! I netted one just over 50 last fall with the DNR. Awesome lake!
Great suggestion Will. Looks like I will need to stock up on some new gear. Don’t think my walleye tackle is going to handle fish like that!

Not really as much as you’d think. I use my summer reels spooled with 10 lb Suffix 832 with a 14# 100% Suffix fluorocarbon leader. The only new component that you should need is a heavy rod and I went with a 38″ Tuned Up Custom LTP (Lake Trout Precision).
Check with some of the local bait shops/fishermen for lures to match the local forage base (I’d say larger lures based on the belly in pictures) and you should be in business.
