Wondering on ice conditions? How is getting out with vehicles? Are heaves limiting access to deeper water still. Are 4 wheelers better at getting out with Ramps? Fishing reports welcome also. Probly going out of East side a week from now. Thanks in advance.

Went out for a few hours this afternoon. Easy travel by truck. Cracks still an issue. Planks are a good idea. Things will change this week, temps jumping to the 50’s next week.

March 13, 2017 at 3:49 pm #1680904Fished Winnipeg this past Friday and Saturday and the bite was very slow for us. We came out of the trip with zero big fish….not sure what we were doing differently than everyone else. Friday morning we went out of Balsam Bay and fished in 22′ and within the first hour I had a big one on that got off right at the bottom of the ice. We moved around quite a bit from 20′ to 26′ without much luck so we pushed our way towards the mouth. We got on a flurry of smaller fish in the afternoon in 23′ but no big ones. Saturday morning we got out early and started fishing at 6am in 14′ of water out of Prudens Access. My brother had done good in the spot a week ago and pulled out a couple bigger fish. We fished there for quite awhile without even marking a fish so we packed up and headed 6 miles to the Northwest. I received a couple reports of guys doing decent in an area and we fished that particular area for a couple hours with only a couple eater fish caught. We decided to head back towards the East and fish in deeper water out of Balsam. We fished in 24′-26′ and did catch more eater sized fish but again no big ones. Overall, it was somewhat of a disappointing trip but I guess that’s how it goes. It’s tough to keep ones confidence when you put in the work and don’t get much in return. Will try again next year!
March 14, 2017 at 9:32 am #1681052Was out from Friday to Sunday. Got quite a few fish. Friday we only fished for a few hours as we had some time to kill before dark. Caught a few but nothing big.
Saturday started off slow but then picked up and we caught quite a few fish, only 1 25″.Sunday within the first 30-45 minutes, we had a 27, 26.5, 26, 25, and finished off the day with a tank of a 24.5″. Fattest walleye I have ever seen. Got a bunch of smaller ones that day as well. Came home with 3 limits of walleye. 2 big white bass, 2 Burbot, and a mooneye made it in the bucket for some reason.
I actually drove from the east side all the way across to the west side. Managed to get across all the cracks without planks. Ice is rough in some area’s but not bad. I had trailer on the back of the truck as well.
Big slender spoons were the ticket for us. I had some luck on #6 Rip n Raps, and PK Spoons, and a Komooki fire tiger bait as well. I would say the Slender Spoon caught most of the fish.
March 16, 2017 at 11:32 pm #1681892Bump, going up Friday. Any ice reports and any issues with cracks. R atv need to get to deeper water?
March 17, 2017 at 10:31 am #1681962Pass0047, not sure where you are accessing the lake, We fished ALL over the south basin March 8-11. We launched out of Warner road on the west side. To SAFLEY access deeper water I would highly recommend an ATV and if possible tracks or take RAMPS. I did see trucks crossing but the ridges where getting dangerous already and I would imagine with warm temps they saw this week they are getting worse. Good luck!!!

We had major ice shifting happening yesterday on the west side. Shook homes in Winnipeg beach. Planks are a must.

Happens every year. More so late in the season as things warm up. Fewer and easier cracks to cross from the east side for sure. Bigger ridges on the west side. Set of planks and a spud bar, and you will find a place to safely cross.
TbonePosts: 32March 20, 2017 at 1:16 pm #1682539The shifting was pretty crazy last week, especially on Wednesday and Thursday. Spots you crossed in the morning had heaved up 6 feet or would have 20 feet of water around it. Caused some long trips looking for new spots to cross to get off the lake. Planks are a must or don’t plan on crossing the heaves.
