I know Hunters posted yesterday on FB that they are pulling private houses if the owner has an atv or sbs. I would assume you would be good to go if you used an atv.
DTJanuary 5, 2021 at 6:34 am #2003192I know beachside was last weekend a limited amount of wheelhouses in the there bay. Sounds like you have to reserve a spot ahead. I would imagine Mac’s twin bay maybe close as well We had been fishing the south side the past few weeks and there was at least 11 then. The red door should be close to letting them out with an atv as well we were all over the mud Friday with at least 10.5 after the crack.

How was the bite ?
January 5, 2021 at 6:58 am #2003198Not much luck on the south side a few fish but nothing great. The north end always treats us better weather the first break or the mud we did decent.
January 5, 2021 at 8:27 am #2003218Appledorns was pulling hard side shacks out with tow trucks last weekend. Only out to Doe island / Shaws reef area. Not a bad place to stage for hole hopping further out. You can ATV just about anywhere from there.

January 5, 2021 at 8:59 am #2003232Call the resort to be sure. But it looked pretty much like a normal winter weekend. Lots of wheelhouses and several permanent shacks in front of my house. I did see Dickie pulling out several hard side shacks out.
This is a picture from Saturday. About 3/4 mile from shore a 1/4 south of the Liberty Beach access.

January 5, 2021 at 9:06 am #2003238I read Dickie was letting half tons and single axles out to the first break, maybe even the second. Rocky Reef is also letting single axles pulled by wheeler. Macs, Appledorns, and Hunters are pulling seasonal rentals to limited spots but weren’t letting wheel houses out yet. Might try calling though, I’ve been let out prior to the internet knowing it was a thing….. Good luck! Maybe I’ll see ya out there.
January 5, 2021 at 11:02 am #2003286I would be leary about going out to far with anything heavy for a bit. For note we were up by the south end of Fletcher on Saturday and found what must of been one of break open spots. There was only 5.5″ of ice.
RipjiggenPosts: 11586January 5, 2021 at 12:27 pm #2003323I found a few yesterday on the southern half of the lake. Randy’s and Rockey reef are the only two off the top off the top of my head.
Braids19Posts: 15January 7, 2021 at 1:59 pm #2003979Has anyone been taking half ton trucks out of the public accesses anywhere? Looking to head up there with some buddies this weekend and would rather not walk out if we don’t have to.

I would wait on the public accesses.. Way to early to be roaming around in uncharted territory.. Just my 2 cents.
Dickies is letting people drive to 1/4 mile & Big Point with truck & wheel houses.
Beachside resort is letting half tons & single axel houses out.
Randy’s is letting Half ton w/single axel.
Hunter Winfield’s is letting half ton with single axel wheel houses out to mouth of the bay.
Hunters Point said no vehicle traffic, but that was 3 days ago. Not making much ice with the snow cover.
Red Door only letting ATV’s & snowmobiles out.
Agate Bay says no cars or trucks this weekend
Appeldoorn’s is only letting people with a rental or small private house out with vehicle. ATV or Snowmobile at this time.
Mac’s Twin Bay is only letting people with a seasonal package out to roads A & B. ATV’s & Snowmobiles from there.
This is what I found with a quick BookFace search. Hope it helps. Some of these reports are from a day or two ago. Might update today but with all the snow cover & lack of cold temps, this weekend isn’t looking very good for the “tourists”.
RipjiggenPosts: 11586January 7, 2021 at 2:41 pm #2003998I agree with above 100percent not the year to be taking trucks out of public access. Found 5 inches in spots last weekend.
January 7, 2021 at 4:57 pm #2004039We decided on rocky reef. The hard sided shack will just be our evening bite, we will be running on atvs in the day
Braids19Posts: 15January 8, 2021 at 1:34 pm #2004270Thanks for the info! Is there quite a bit of snow up on the lake? Do you think a guy would still be fine with an ATV?
RipjiggenPosts: 11586January 9, 2021 at 12:02 pm #2004455A couple buddies and I went out of Rocky Reef thursday evening until yesterday afternoon. Had about 13 inches of ice by Indian point. They had a nice road plowed out to there Deffinetely a bunch of houses out. I brought the sleds and portable to venture buy didnt happen. I called the resort to check condition going out to flats and they said a 2′ crack had opened up a few days ago but he was not sure on its current status as he had not checked it again since. I didnt feel like venturing out myself knowing that and given how foggy it was so just stayed by the shack. Im not even sure where this crack was running. Caught a variery of fish though. Walleye, a couple of pout, rock bass and quite a few perch, 3 of which would have been keepers but all released. It was nice to get a line wet finally.

does that same guy still own rocky reef!! I went out of there a few times, back 6-7 years ago. he seemed to me somewhat odd. Maybe it was me. He was on a few fishing sites. I asked several times what he’d charge for a overnight house and all he’d tell me come on up I’ll take care of you.

Well…
That would have been the first J.O.
Better known as “The Rock Man”🎸
I know he fell on some hard times, I don’t know all the details…just bits n pieces. Not sure he removed himself, more likely he was removed by J.O. jr. and/or others.
Maybe it was self inflicted, still kinda sad…he sure was a character now disappeared.
