Driving 4 hours to Mille lacs Thursday and hoping we are hitting a good time. The weather is showing temps in the 60’s and wind 10-15. First time fishing the big pond in my own boat. Any reports would be appreciated. Tight lines!!

What kind of boat? My 17 ft aluminum gets beat at 15 mph winds. I’m sure the smallies are firing up. I don’t pay much attention to the walleyes but if your fishing smallies the walleyes are always close

I have a Alumacraft 175 Trophy. Hoping it will do well on Mille lacs. May have to fish where the wind is blowing from

That’s what I was going to say. Fish the “calm” side

I had the same boat 2008 175 Trophy and no problems anywhere on the lake.

Haven’t fished in the fall since the late 90s. That has changed since this is the first fall since retiring. Fished the gravel/rocks out of Cove Bay yesterday. Got a couple walleyes (24 and 20.5) and a couple smallies. Lost another nice fish that was probably a smallie. Spent some time learning my LiveScope more.
The 20.5 was caught pulling lead core in 27 feet over gravel, my first landed fish on lead core. I just bought my first lead core rig from an IDOer earlier this year. The 24 was in 12 feet in rocks on a jig and minnow. Here’s a pic of that. Cove Bay access in good shape for bigger boats.

Had a great trip, first couple days were tough fishing, but on Sunday we got into them(smallies). We launched out of Terri’s and Mac’s. Shout out to the guide we met at the docks who gave us great intell. We landed 2 smallies over 20 inches and many around the 17-18 inch range. Caught 1 walleye around 14”. I am impressed by the friendliness of everyone we met. Just great people. We will be back next fall, I think we were about a week too early. Water temps 58 when we left on Sunday.
