Any prop experts t9.9 high thrust

    I’d like to get more speed at a lower rpm. This prop looks small and quite frankly did not fit properly when I purchased it on the motor. I had to file the thrust washer to fit correctly. Motor is only used on superior for salmon and trout. Was thinking a four blade 10 pitch 11 inch prop would be more suited for my needs. It pushes my 175 competitor at around 1.7 or so at a nice quiet idle but to keep it around 2.3 I need to just rev it up a tiny bit to the point it’s louder then I would like. Any ideas? Do you think the prop is to small to begin with it looks like a lot of room to go bigger. Thanks! Sorry about the double pictures they didn’t post right away so I reposted and then they all showed up !

    That doesn’t look like the correct prop. Most Yamaha high thrust props I’ve seen have been white and four bladed. I’m not sure of the pitch or diameter though.

    The prop is a solas and was white but I painted it black to match my big motor. It must have been a replacement but it did not fit right.

    If you figure out a way to make kickers quiet let me know! I have a Zuke 9.9 and it’s annoyingly loud. I had it next to a df140 and it wasn’t even a fair comparison. I now have a vf200 and it’s got a bite more growl, so comparable.

    I have done a bit of work to quite it down and it is a lot better but I would like to know the size and pitch prop this motor should have. Mostly just want a little more speed with out increasing the rpm. I turned the intake down with a piece of curved pvc, and completely covered the inside with high temp noise reducing matting. Night and day difference.

    i-Boats has a prop selector with a wide range of pitches. Enter in the info for you motor, will give you a choice of props that should physically “fit” and go from there to select the pitch you would like.

    This is the factory prop on my t 9.9. Can’t give exact numbers. But think they are quite a bit better. On a 185 Competitor. May get out the end of the week. If so I’ll pay closer attention. 11 3/4 x 7-R if the pic doesn’t come through. { my first attempt. }

    Wouldn’t think it would matter on a small motor, being water cooled. But wonder if it will run warmer with the insulation. I don’t notice the motor running noise. But I spent 50 years in a noisy shop. And owned 2 strokes till 10 years ago.

    Thanks Steve for the prop info. I’ve had this insulation on for weeks and been using it every weekend and motor shows no signs of being hot.
