I’m one of the lucky anglers that got to enjoy the beautiful weather on pool 4 with out bite all day on saturday. Heck, I couldn’t even loose a jig. Checking to see if pool 2 was any better for anyone.

Same thing Saturday afternoon for us. Sunday was a different story with a decent bite going. Of course there where three boats out that day to find out.

Mike not looking for spots, but what presentation worked best on sunday? Were you fishing lower or upper pool 2?

I was one of those three boats on Sunday, until the snow coming sideways drove me out. With the low current, the fish are pretty scattered. Fish were caught dragging, vertical and pitching.

I have heard the bite on P2 has been tough…Not sure about “low current” though. Per the USGS, P2 is about 4X higher than normal for this time of the year.

    Hey kwp,
You are correct that the bite has been tough. I agree that my definition of “low current flow” is ambiguous and subjective. To be more specific, when there is not a well defined current seam in the channel, and a person can run upstream in the main channel with a 50 lb thrust electric, then I consider that “low”. CFS, pool elevation, water temperature, turbidity and bottom and bank topography interact to produce conditions that are either favorable or unfavorable to us catching fish.
Up to last weekend, the odds favored the majority of the fish, IMHO. Hope that clarifies things folks.

Like Mark said a variety of presentations where working. Vertical jigging plastics or minnows, dragging plastics, pitching. Other than the rain and snow Sunday was a nice morning to be out. The fish where holding in typical spots that they do for this time of year. Think with the weather moving through it just happened to be a morning they decided to feed.

One thing I have been trying to focus more on this time of year is slowing my presentations down. Dont think you can fish to slow for them is this cold water. About the only thing I have tried yet is just anchoring the boat and dead sticking heavy jigs over the side or letting slip rigs sit on the bottom. But this has crossed my mind.

Let the jig tap bottom now and then otherwise hold it steady and as close to bottom as possible.I have found very little to no jigging action at all will result in way more fish.Haven’t tried to anchor but I have drug slip sinkers with floating jigs or plain hooks and have done well before

20 boats at the confluence this morning. Looked like the “Y” at Red Wing. Lots of fishing, little catching. Nothing at the dam yet. Water Temp 35.2 degrees.

Slow for us yesterday with the Mn side of the river below the confluence 2-3° colder.
