We are looking to buy a used full-size SUV to tow a boat with(likely picking up an 1850 Reata), I really like the Tahoe/Yukon, and have some friends with a lot of good experience with pre-2015 Tahoes.

Anyone here have experience working on or owning one of these? My wife doesn’t want a pickup as we want a 3rd row seat, and also can’t go brand new because LOL at the price of a brand new full size SUV. I love the look of the new Expeditions, but those weren’t re-designed until 2018, so the used ones are too expensive.

I know the 2015s had AC issues, and some issues with getting stuck in 4WD. But it’s tough to know reading online reviews as I feel like it’s often just the unhappy people who post reviews.

The Denali’s come with the 6.2L V8, which is an absolute beast, but I”m not sure if there’s a difference in reliability for that engine or the standard 5.3L V8 in the other Tahoe/Yukons.

You are correct about the AC on those. I have found a cracked bracket on the condenser that leaks the freon. Have found it on 15 and 16’s. After 36000 miles GM won’t do any warranty on this problem even if you are the original owner. Also almost everyone the alignment is off from the factory. (Toe setting)

I would love to have one as i think they present the ideal tow/family vehicle in many ways but im leary of GMC engines with AFM. Also agree with you on the prices they are outrageous. Even slightly used SUV’s are more expensive in some cases then a brand new truck

I noticed that, seems like a classic form over function decision there…

I might end up getting an older pickup for now, just have to convince my wife of it.

You can always put these on if needed.

Definitely the case. I had a ’12 Tahoe and got a ’17 as a loaner when I had some work done. The shrunken mirrors were the first thing I noticed. Nice vehicle for sure, but aside from the gas mileage, I’d choose my Sequoia 8 days a week.

The prices on these full size SUVs is really out of hand, though.

The 5.3 was completely redesigned in 2014 and now again in 2019. AFV is no longer an issue on these. In the 2010 to 2013 timeframe there were a lot of complaints though.

2007 5.3 tows like a dream. No issues does use some oil, nothing I cannot live with. 109000 miles, when time comes will buy another.

I take delivery of my reata in a few weeks and looked pretty seriously at the Yukon. That 5.3 will be a great motor and you pay a huge premium for the Denali version.

I ended up going with a new Ram but it was a close call. I was amazed how the Yukon’s hold their value.
