I have for years but lately it doesn’t seem to have much fishing articles. I’m sure this reflects on the seasons as well. The fishing reports albeit anywhere on social media you can get lake names but I do think it does hammer some lakes. Debating if I should renew or not. Just wondering how you all like it. Not bashing it seems good just not what I’m looking for in content as much anymore.

i get it via a christmas gift from my mom. i was thinking of not renewing it this year but it was renewed by mom again.

i agree i’m not a real big fan but i do like some of the articles, for a Minnesota edition its got alot of outstate stuff. that i’m not a fan of but thats me.

i do however like what they print in the editorials..i may not agree with them all the time but thats why they are editorials….it creates feedback by letters to the editor. they also are pretty darn good at keeping us up to date on whats happening in st paul!!!!

then theres the dog articles, hunting and fishing articles that are good. i have till the end of the year to decide but i may renew it, for the most part its ok….so…….as far as fishing reports.i hope they limit lake names……

I picked Outdoor News years ago because I was sick of big/ national magazines and wanted outdoor info specifically for MN, and that’s what I like.

I agree that a lot of times the internet will already have covered a lot of news by the time my printed newsletter shows up.

Sometimes i wonder if the same articles get published around the same time every year regarding the rut, early season ice tactics, shed hunting, etc. But all in all I like reading it as there’s something in every issue I enjoy reading, and for the price I have no regrets. I’ve actually been renewing at that state fair and getting a free hat with it the last few years.

I’ve had a subscription on and off for a number of years. Currently I do not. In theory I love it. It’s old school in the sense that it’s a newspaper about the outdoors and im all about supporting everything old. In reality I didn’t enjoy many of the articles and found myself not reading it enough to warrant renewing

I look forward to reading the outdoor news. I like the lake highlight on back of the cover. Really some good finds on lakes I probably would have never heard of and now enjoy going to each year. It is a slow time of year now for articles but as someone mentioned always find something interesting and will continue to get.

I have read outdoor news for years.
At times it depresses me as it seems every year, especially during legislation time, you read about known problems that won’t be improved.
I also really miss Joe Felagy’s rocking the boat column.

I get a free copy when I see one at some show or event.

Subscription ran out some 20 years ago.

Weekly is too much. Biweekly or monthly would be better. I used to get stressed out being 2/3 weeks behind. Then wife was always on me because they were laying around. Haven’t subscribed in about 5 years.

100% same. In the summer and into fall, when I really should be up on them, I’m way behind because I never have time to sit and read them.

I used to get Minnesota and Wisconsin. It was way to much, mn was weekly and Wisconsin every others. And a lot of stories would overlap states, so I ended up with just Wisconsin. I haven’t renewed it for awhile and actually just thinking about renewing it. I like some of our state news and state issues, plus it’s nice for starting wood stove and cleaning fish..

Huh surprised by some of these responses. I love the insights of some local contributors like Steve Carney. The commentary and write-ins are consistently entertaining.

I will compare fishing reports week-to-week from some of the local regions and it’s funny to see how some recycle the same report over and over.

I would imagine the service is widely successful and not in danger of going everywhere.

My in-laws renew a subscription every year for my birthday. They give both the paper and digital subscription. I do enjoy it but like others have said not all articles get read. When finished it goes to a neighbor to read and he takes it to work for others to read.

Subscriber for many years here but have not renewed for a couple years now. Early on I found myself reading it as soon as possible after receiving it. Loved reading Gary Clancy and Shawn Perich in particular. Seeing if I knew anyone in Cuffs and Collars or reading the “You should have been here yesterday” fishing reports. Slowly became my bathroom reader and a couple trips to finish everything until I got to the point where less than one trip and finished. Decided it wasn’t worth the price to me anymore. There is still a bunch of good info in there, but as I get older, most does not pertain to me or is repetitious.

I first subscribed because a lot of new small companies used to advertise their new miracle gadgets there. Since then, I never see any of them anymore. Articles are pretty repetitive but remember- jigs sink, bobbers float. How many different ways can you spin it?

Have not purchased or read an issue since the publisher allowed the editors and writers to print lies. smash

I like reading the cuffs and collars sections because I work in law enforcement. Especially during deer firearms season that seems to bring out the really dumb ones. Its posted online for free.

One of my favorites every week. Although as the years go by it’s more and more depressing, knowing that in this day and age there’s really no violation or method of violation out there that someone won’t try. The people that show up in cuffs and collars damage/harm our natural resources and quite often are a danger to other sportsman by their carelessness.

It’s been years since I subscribed. I completely forgot about the ads for miracle gadgets. Thanks for the memories!

Who needs Outdoor News when you have IDO and all the fishing and hunting groups on FB?

I still subscribe and enjoy it, but I often fall behind like others have said. It was better a few years ago when Gary Clancey was still alive, loved his articles. Also enjoyed Shawn Perich, but he stopped writing his column. Joe Fellegy can be entertaining but how much can you write about Mille Lacs??

Still the best reporting on local conservation and outdoor issues going through St Paul, IMO. Stuff the local news doesn’t cover.

I let my subscription lapse a year ago. I fish and hunt but found myself reading what I wanted in less than half an hour per issue. Thought I would miss it but I don’t. The seasonally timed articles were predictable and I rarely learned “new stuff.” I may be an old dog but I find the internet to be more informative.

I look forward to mine each week. Have been a subscriber for more than 20 years. It is the only paper printed in this state worth reading IMO. It only takes two hours to read, not sure how some cannot get through that in a week.

I like the idea of it. It reminds me of the old days where Ron Schara’s and Sybil Smith’s Twin Cities fishing guides were owned by everyone. It’s good to have a local focus on the sports we love. But just like with all print media, I just don’t read it anymore. It’s sad, but that’s just the way it is.

I read it more when I lived away for many years. It was my connection to back home.

Like others have said, the problem with fishing publications is that how many times can a person read the same articles over and over. Mid-summer crappies, monster bluegills by going deep. On and on. I just can’t read those anymore. What I do like to read are the human interest stories about memorable fishing trips, etc.

Yup, I was thinking Midwest Outdoors but all the comments are almost interchangeable with both.
