Been playing drums/percussion for 25 years. Drum set, Timpani, Marimba, Xylophone, Quad Toms, etc. Rarely play more than a few times a year anymore, but I still enjoy it. There was I time when I could play double bass fast and keep up with tracks from Bullet for my Valentine, FFDP, etc; and maybe even match the math rock tempos of Tool or Mudvayne. Now day’s i’m content to throw headphones on and play along to some classic rock or red dirt country. I can tune my 5 piece electronic kit to sound exactly like the drums on ever Alabama song ever recorded. waytogo

Once upon a time i was in MN all State Band.

    Tuba

Mostly ma forced me to try out and dangit I got in.

Wished i hadn’t made it because it seemed like most people wanted to be there. Band camp in July meant I hadn’t practiced since school ended, and it showed. The University football coach wouldn’t leave me alone that week though. Lol.

Was the first time playing tuba that was more than quarter and whole notes. A nice change that was.

    >Nothing wrong with staying with the classics like Little Walter, Sonny Terry, >Sonny Boy Williamson…

Personal favorites are William Clarke, Big Walter, and Jerry Portnoy.

I play guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, and BLUES harmonica. For those of you that talk about playing harmonica, the basic blues stuff is really pretty easy. You have to learn to SUCK instead of blow to get that blues sounds. If you learn to play only one hole you can do the blues. I have played in a few bands and even produced a CD with one band. I still play regularly on my church worship team. My favorite music to play is blues on harmonica and IF I had a dream it would be to be able to play blues better on guitar. I carry my harmonica everywhere and play in the car on long drives.

I played guitar at a number of coffeehouses (mostly folk and original) and for churches in MN and WI. Played Jazz trumpet in HS and College, Quintet/quartet groups, and Christmas anthems solos at churches. I also took some keyboard theory lessons and can put together a song or two on the piano. Without music, fishing, and paddling, life wouldn’t be worth living.

Violinist here. Primarily classical, but I have ended up playing a variety of genres and artist. Vince Gill, Indigo Girls, Moody Blues, Gloria Estefan at a Super Bowl halftime show, and Lee Greenwood to name a few. The added benefit of music is that is has involved a number of great “working vacations” all over the world.

I don’t wanna brag…..but one time I snapped my fingers….like two times in a row mrgreen

That’s about the extent of my music abilities these days. Wish I was half as good as DT on the jazz flute.

When I was a kid I wanted to join the band and play trumpet or sax.

But….we were poor….so my Mom threw my older sister’s “retired” clarinet at me…..said if I want to be in the school band that’s what I was playing.

A couple years later I earned some medals at State Solo & Ensemble….

Man I use-to-could play the $hit out of a clarinet jester

(honest to God true story) doah

I play a little guitar. Actually it’s a normal size guitar. Used to play mostly electric. A lot of grunge and metal, some punk. Now I mostly play the acoustic. Still some grunge. A lot of Pearl Jam, and some alternative stuff. Death cab for cutie, the shins… Been playing for about 20 years now. That doesn’t mean that I’m good. Never taken lessons. Just jammed with friends as teens. Now I’m 36 and mostly play for my 2 year old. He doesn’t appreciate tool like I do but I think he’s coming around!

Ya had me at death cab. The first 3-5 studio albums, particularly, are where it’s at.

With Tool it seems like people start off not appreciating it much or understanding it, but after a while it grows on them and pretty soon they’re obsessed. That’s how it happened for me at least. Can’t wait for the new album. I’m almost willing to bet it will be out in spring of 2019. ALMOST… smirk

Let’s just pray the new tool album is better the the a p c album. As much as I hate to say it , I did not care for the new one. But the concert was great same with the tool one.

Danny Carey = best drummer EVER! Don’t believe me? Look him up on you tube. A perfect circle has a whole different vibe than tool. A little softer and not quite as dark. Tool takes the time between albums to get it right. And it shows. You could listen to 46 and 2 a hundred times and still pick up subtle nuances that you never noticed before. That’s what I love about them. Like I said, my son is 2 so the fact that he doesn’t quite appreciate tool yet doesn’t really offend me… that much.
