grandma was 100% Norwegian, wasn’t a day it wasn’t in her house… my fav was simple, real butter with white or brown sugar & rolled up, would easily polish off half a dz at a time.

Norwegian. Butter and sugar and roll up. At Christmas we also used red or green sugar.
This Christmas is the first year we didn’t get any. I suppose there’s still time.

Grandmas were Finnish and Austrian, but the story’s the same. Haven’t had it in a while though sadly.
All kinds of Scandinavian in my gene pool. My great aunts made lefse, butter and brown sugar was the norm. Grandpa was a rebel and sprinkled on some cinnamon as well.
My grandma was 100% Norwegian and she did a great job of passing the traditions down to my generation. My cousins made fresh lefse and flatbread, and I cooked the lutefisk for Christmas Eve dinner. Such great food, and lots of butter.
Yes love lefse. Wife is Norwegian ancestry and she makes it occasionally, though none this year yet. My father in law is not a fan though and refers to lefse as “buttered napkins”
We just made 15 lbs of it a week ago. We just have it with butter. My favorite is dipping it in the gravy. It’s such a simple thing (which is why the Norwegian’s made it so much with their plentiful potatoes), but it’s total comfort food.
I was kind of under the impression it was a Swede thing to put sugar on it, and that Norwegians just did butter. Either way, I like it both ways. My favorite way is with hot sauce…
Butter only here, and dipped in gravy is a must. The wife and I were handed down everything from my parents to keep making it, it goes pretty good with 2 flat grills going.
