Any ideas on how to cover up old rod holder holes?

    Hi All!

I bought my used boat a little over 2 years ago. The previous owner did not put much thought into where he was mounting the flush mount scotty and ram rod holders. Now I have a few that I would like to move but the old plates leave a nasty hole. I could just leave the flush mount plates where they are and add more, but I was curious to know if anyone has come across a creative way to cover these holes without costly fiberglass work being done.

    Any ideas?

I filled mine on my old boat with epoxy, and then stuck some of that grip tape over the top to keep the water out. Makes a nice place to step in and out now.

Same thought as above. Either cover the holes with a textured grip plate so it looks/functions like as step, or fill them and grip tape over them.

The gold plated solution would be fill them with fiberglass, sand them, and then redo the rail with a grip-tex type texture or other grip product so the whole rail is a protected stop. But that’s a significant amount of work.

You could cover up the entire area with a TRAX system? This could solve both problems for ya (cover up existing holes, allow infinite future rod holder locations)

That screenshot is exactly why i’ll never cut holes in my boat, you can never go back afterwards…

I guess if it was mine I would leave the flush mount in there and add more in the spots you want them…… otherwise the fiberglass and grip tape isn’t a bad idea…….. I ended up adding more flush mounts to mine cause I couldn’t stand to leave a hloe in my glass and/or stomach the cost of having a professional fix the holes and gelcoat….
