Seems like ever year the MPLS Sportsshow will have deals on last years Birds but we don’t get a look at what’s new for 2020. Anyone have a clue what 2020s will be?

Any idea of what the 2020 Birds will do?

They just rolled out the Gen3 line this last year so I wouldn’t expect much new this year. Maybe something in the high end line that is way above my pay grade.

Yes. A most will know, I’m a skunkworks tester for major marine manufacturers.
I tested the 2020 models back in 2018. I’m currently testing 2021 models. I’m limited in what I can say about the new models except to comment on what’s already gotten out.
All I can say is you guys will LOVE the new 32 inch screens. I cannot confirm that 36-inch and 42-inch screens are in the works, so please don’t ask.
Also, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of the “DeckScreen”, which if it did exist, would be a stand-on screen that overlays the entire front casting deck of boats so equipped. If it did exist, I would say it’s awesome and you’ve GOT to get one when the are available to the regular weekend guys.

Geez Grouse. At least you didn’t say anything about the new VR goggles being developed that let you see fish in over 100 ft. of water.
To me the panoptix level electronics make fishing about as “sporting” as using a drone with laser guided weapons to “hunt” deer…

VR is soooooo 2014. You’re living in the past, man. As most will now know, the VR HelmetView, full-face screen showed early promise. Except…
Sadly, it seemed to produce extreme nausea (seasickness, to the layman) and induce projectile vomiting in a small, but significant number of testers. About 56%, to be exact. Obviously, projectile vomiting while wearing a full-face screen tends to, ummm, negatively impact the user’s overall experience with the product. The whole project was cast overboad.

Is the implantable lens with a heads up display that id’s all fish within a mile by species and size ready to release yet, or are they still working on the link to the Auto-Cast-Retrieve-and-fish-lander?

I heard this will be an option on the new ranger FS 628 in 2021. I also heard they’re shooting for a price point under $0.5M.

No, the DeckScreen (if it did exist) would NOT be available on smaller budget boats like a 628. The target market for that economy model is the casual weekend guys who don’t want to invest in a real boat.
Obviously, I cannot confirm rumors that I’m testing what some have called the 634T. The T, by the way, means “triple”. The DeckScreen is more aimed at this model, which I can say finally has enough space to comfortably fish 2 guys with gear.

Will I be able to comfortably troll out of Ranger’s 2021 634T on Pool 4, or will I need to upgrade to the 638T to make it so I can handle the ride or even sneak in a 3rd person if I limit gear?
I’ve heard rumors that with some carbon fiber technology, they’re marketing the 634T & 638T as a “Full Ton Towable”, so those with a commuter sized vehicle who may not be avid outdoorsmen can still handle it without having to upgrade their tow vehicle. Any truth to this?

Yes, if you get the optional 75 HP kicker, the 634T will troll nicely. No need to upgrade to a 638 just for that.

If you skimp on horsepower and only go with the “standard” 3X400 option, then yes, the 634 WOULD be towable by a standard soccer-mom 1-ton pickup. Assuming, of course, you limit your fuel to no more than half full in each of the 4 tanks, so 400 gallons total. I guess it’s hard for me to believe any real angler would be such a girlie-man as to actually own said Wimpy 1 Ton, but I suppose it’s possible some light-in-loafers, uptown-loft-living, chardonnay-sipper would still be driving around in such an affeminate vehicle. Please don’t park next to my F850.
Obviously, as a SkunkWorks tester, I wouldn’t be testing such a low rent version of this boat. All I can say is that if I were testing this boat, I’d be testing a new Y##### outboard that is currently only disclosed to be “well in excess” of 450. Times 3, obviously. If I were testing it, which is only a rumor.

Red EyePosts: 989Iowaboy1Posts: 3848November 8, 2019 at 8:38 pm #1889900TFG forgot to mention that his HO motors need a 100HP pony motor to start them as they are too high of compression for any battery on the market to spin over.
the gas powered trolling motors need preheated like Indy car motors do or they seize up started cold.do we need to mention the private jets he flies in on or the six mile runway they use up to land on??
Iowaboy1Posts: 3848November 8, 2019 at 9:34 pm #1889904Boy, this thread took a sharp left turn rather quickly.
sorry biggill, its friday night, all of us are shot and to be honest I am about half in the bag.
not only that, one of our very own lost a very important part of her life and we could use some levity.so,to get back on track to the op’s question, what will the 2020 birds do??
well sir,if its like any other year, they will fly north in the spring and south in the winter.November 8, 2019 at 10:32 pm #1889906to be honest I am about half in the bag.
Me too! Jameson made a long visit tonight after trying to heal from a slight sinus infection since about 1 week ago.

Definitely. Sharon and our loved ones deserve it.
I was just having some fun but at the same time trying to respect a good contributor to the site. I obviously contributed to the detour.

I cant help myself as there are an infinite number of ways to interpret a question without reading the heading first,I could say you opened the door and I invited myself in but I will blame jack instead, cheers!!
SheldonNovember 9, 2019 at 4:11 pm #1889991Lol , I expect nothing less. I’m holding out for a 65in Screen! But I swear, the moment I buy a new Bird, they will come out with one that not only is a Depthfinder but makes waffles and fries bacon.
