Anyone seen any sales or deals on lead acid group 31 batteries? I need to buy two new ones shortly for my trolling motor. Been digging through forums to try and decide where to buy them, but have not seen anything all that recent. Here are a couple I am looking at going with unless someone has a better deal they know of.

    Everstart Maxx Group 29 – $99
Sams Club Duracell Group 31- $99
Orielly Auto Parts Group 31 – $99 supposedly made by east-penn and similar to Deka

Sam’s Club usually has marine batteries on sale sometime in April.Who knows this year? The lead acid 31 series from Sam’s are decent, even better are the platinum AGM batteries. And for the quality those won’t break the bank.Plus I have had good results with OTC replacements.

My local Auto Value guys told me that Deka is so far behind building batteries they are temporarily discontinuing manufacture of the deep cycle batts and going to the combination starting/deep cycle batts till they catch up with their entire battery inventory. Whats in the whse is all thats available. When its gone, its gone…. for now. I expect the other manufacturers will follow suit. They had 12 in stock in their store. I just bought 3 Deka 31 from them last year for $127 ea.

I’ve had very good luck with my napa batteries. Both deep cycle and starting. Not too bad on the wallet either.

I have a small agm ace marine/ scooter battery I bought from Fleetfarm back when I bought my first little boat about 13 years ago. I used it to power my fish finder and courtesy lights in my 14’ northwoods boat. After I traded the boat in for a 16.5’ with full sized batteries, It sat on my shelf and I charged it periodically until last summer when it got installed in my lawn tractor. It still works like a charm after all of those years to start the lawn tractor at subzero temps. When it came time for the best battery I could get / afford, I decided on the tried and true (to me) agm ace marine batteries. Two group 27 agm ace deep cycle batteries went into my new Crestliner Commander 2050 last fall for the trolling motor and also a group 24 agm ace marine battery went in as a house battery. When the factory supplied starting battery gets a little age on it, or gives me the slightest sign of reduced capacity, I will replace it with an agm ace.

I talked to a coworker about boat batteries a while back and he swears by everstart batteries from Walmart. He said they’re great! They last for one season and you take it back into Walmart for a replacement every year. His exact words.

How that is a great battery is something I’ll never understand.

They were made by Johnson Controls at one time not sure now with batteries stamped made in Korea. But the Johnson batteries are some of the best. Got 7 years out of my TM batteries on my Smokercraft.

FYI called Johnson Controls now called Clarios storage solutions, they bought out JC battery division about 2 years ago. Walmart batteries with the Serial# beginning with JCH are Johnson made batteries.I tried to get a list of brands they put out but no luck.

Thanks for the reply Bigcrappie. I’m glad you got a solid run out of them back then. I hope to report a solid 10 year life out of my agm aces from Fleetfarm. They’re going to be babied. I have two minnkota onboard chargers and two minnkota onboard alternator chargers that will be keeping them charged and happy their entire life.

BigCrappie, thanks for the info on the Walmart Everstart. I looked at them the other day to verify if they would even fit in my battery compartment. Snapped a couple pictures and it looks like they are made by Clarios. This battery online says its not even carried in stores. They had a couple at both the Eagan and Burnsville Walmart with date stamp 1/21. They do have another group 29 everstart that is $10 cheaper but only has a 1 year warranty.

Pretty sure a 29 and 31 size are the same just some companies call it a 29 for some reason.

Anyone know where in the metro you can even buy a Deka battery? Looks like Lowes carries them but online it shows there not available. Here is the Lowes link:

Me too. I used and sold nothing but interstate batteries for years, but do to an alliance with Napa we stock the Napa Legend batteries at the shop I’m at now and they have been great.
