I have always fished the river for cats but am wondering if there are any decent lakes within 25 miles of the Lakeville area? Im not looking for anyone’s honey hole or anything just thinking about trying somewhere new.

It’s a little farther then 25 miles but lake tetonka and lake sakatah near Waterville, mn can produce some good channel cats along with cannon lake near faribalt, mn.

    Tight lines!

I will also say Cannon lake.

Caught quite a few 30″rs out of there last year.

Cannon is the biggest lake in the area and fools most people.
Lots and LOts of fish in that lake and it doesn’t see 5% of the fishing pressure as the lakes surrounding it.

Can PM you a few spots to get you started.

If you are looking north metro search FIN lakes stocked on the mndnr site. I caught channels for on shore in Moore Lake….a couple decades ago.

Depending on how far north metro you are thinking and if you want to get out in a boat, there are a couple lakes connected to the Snake river that will have catfish. From Cross Lake in Pine City to Fish Lake in Mora.

Golden Lake in Circle Pines was stocked and I have heard about people catching them through the ice. Crooked Lake in Andover has them too. No first hand experience so your mileage may vary.

Can I ask why you aren’t just fishing the rivers (Rum, Mississippi), which have an abundance of channel cats?

dfresh .I will fish the rivers too. Have fished the Miss since I was a kid.
Never targeted cats. Have caught lots of small cats, While just fishing for whatever hits on a crawler. No cats over 5lbs though.

If your still looking for lakes in the south metro Lake Byllesby has great Channel catfish population. They can be caught shore fishing or boat
