Where, Mitch? Seems way early for hummers!

I live in Menomonie, WI. I Saw another hummer fly to my empty feeder this AM. I will try and get a picture of it, they are just so fast.

We have a new visitor. A crow found our bird bath and is now using it to soak his food. Smart buggers.

Switched out the suet cakes for humming bird feeder. Took all of about 5 minutes for the first bird to show up!

Really? I put mine out a week and a half ago and haven’t seen a hummer yet. (

Our neighbors who moved used to get hummingbirds all the time because they had tubular flowers. We put up a feeder and we see one fly through occasionally checking out anything with color, including the feeder, only to fly off.

I saw some bulbs at “The Deep” marked 50% off. So after a quick Google search of ones being offered that would attract hummers, I bought a couple packs. I’m hoping these work. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy watching hummingbirds?

We have seen humming bird moths at dusk feeding on our flowers, which is cool, but no substitute.

Not I. My eyes aren’t that good and those hummer nests are only the size of a golf ball.

I was crappie fishing this morning and the orioles and indigo buntings were all over in the trees along shore.

I should add that the woodpeckers are fairly tame compared to all the other birds, especially when he has the youngster around. I was within 3-4′ of the feeder in those pictures. When dad spooked, the youngster stuck around and actually seemed more curious of me trying to get a closer look.

The cardinals, titmice and chickadees and pretty tame too since they visit daily. The doves still are pretty wary of us….probably because the dogs chase them. Then again, they chase the squirrels, but they have figured out the game and know the dogs lose interest after one charge and the tree rats go back down on the ground to eat immediately. Not to be confused with the real rats which are the spookiest of them all.

All of my Goldfinches have gone territorial and raise absolute heck with each other at the feeders right now. On one hand its almost comical to watch but then they seem so aggressive towards each other. I think I need to find a tweety shrink before I have fatalities to deal with.

I hope this idiot gets jail time.

man runs sandhill crane over with a golf cart

Yesterday on our way to put our 18 year old cat down we saw two babies running across the street following the parents. It was too cute.

Man, what a sack of crap he is. I agree Pug, jail time should be right up on his list of punishment. Sounds like the old lady is just as stupid and guilty.

Well the dumb arse admitted to it on camera. It’s pretty much an open and shut case. I believe the listed status means you cannot harass them. Hope it goes as it should. Jail time or at least a hefty fine.

I love the sounds they make when flying and its usually at the crack of dawn. It’s very peaceful.

Ma and I love watching Sandhills. Very graceful birds in flight and their call is wonderful. I can usually hear them before I see them and I’m deaf, lol.

As for the idiot, let the legal dogs have at him. Someone should post his address and phone number….on social sites.

And Pug…..sorry about the cat. Pets are tough to lose.

Thanks. It was tough as always, but she had cancer somewhere in her abdomen. It was time. It will be a while until I stop catching myself thinking I hear here or saw her.

I’m not a huge believer in “signs” but you know how how the mind works when you go through things. Saw the sand hills crossing the street. The room had a couple pictures of nesting sand hills and their chicks. Then the news story.

Now if someone could tell me what it means. Lol

So, when I checked a couple of weeks back,
the wood duck had at least 7 eggs.
    She is still incubating today.
When would they be expected to hatch?
And would they be leaving the nest at daybreak the following day?

Yes it’s an orange tree. I thought it was a lime tree at first because I didn’t know they ripen in the winter.

The first year not to many made it to ripe stage. I started spike fertilizing it and last year we got more. This year it’s pretty full, but a lot can happen between now and winter.

I plan on actually using them next year. I’ve been a little concerned it might be a citrus tree like an orange but that could make you sick. But I sampled a little and was fine.

Had a bunch of orials come through. Fun watching them fighting over the orange. The grosbeak comes in early evenings.

We found a jelly feeder for the Orioles at Walmart. You simply screw a whole jar of jelly down on the dish and hang it. Gravity feeds the jelly out as they eat it. We can’t keep birds off that feeder and are on the third large jar of jelly in two weeks. We’ve had as many as 5 Orioles on it at once, but only one male at a time. Man do the wars start when two males show up for din din. lol

Lol, I once found to males fighting on the ground when I was a kid. I swear I could have just grabbed them. They had each other in a leg lock.
